Ilford Perceptol

I am about to develop Ilford Delta 100 in Perceptol for the first time. I have chosen Perceptol for the purported softer edges (reduced sharpness?) that it produces, as I have portraiture on the negatives. Am generally looking for experiences you may have with Perceptol (grain, sharpness, etc.) particularly when used for portraits. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Softer edges? I thought Perceptol was supposed to be very sharp, with fine grain?

Perceptol straight is very fine and mushy grain - one stop speed loss. Not pretty IMHO. On the other hand, diluted 1+3 it is extremely sharp with still fine grain and no speed loss. My favorite combo at the moment.

Yep, I agree with that. Perceptol 1+3 produces good sharp negs.
