Greetings,

I am planning to take an extended vacation in Europe in late spring to early summer, and wish to take my 4x5 or 5x7 camera with me. I have a cousin living in Zurich, and will be using his place as my home base during my stay.

I am thinking it might be best to buy my film (FP4+) over in Europe - that way it is only X-rayed once (when I return to the US). Is there a store or location from whom I can purchase film? Do I need to order from an online store and have it delivered to my cousin? Basically how would a Swiss LF shooter get his Ilford FP4+? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!
Steve

It might be easier (still) to find 13x18cm film than 5x7" film. Make sure you get the correct size for your holders!

Nevertheless, if you have some time (and a car) I guesss it would be fun to visit Lotus's premises, they could show you some pretty nice cameras (up to 20x24 inch) and they organise some interesting workshops. You can contact them for details, they're very nice people.

Thank You!

All,

Thank you very much.

It seems like 4x5 should be a non-issue, but 5x7 could be a bit more problematic (I am trying to avoid buying 13x18 holders). If any other sources come to mind, please let me know...

Steve,

Checked all my other sources, if they do stock bigger than 4x5 it's either 13x18, or 8x10.

Edwin,

Danke Viel Mal!!

Your 5x7 source ships to Switzerland then? I will have to email them to see if I can order from here, and have it sent to CH.

Again... Thank you!!!

Steve,

Sorry parts of my post was accidentally deleted before i sent it off.

I meant my local suppliers don't carry them but perhaps you could try with the uk suppliers who carry 5x7.

I sent an e-mail to Ilford Switzerland if they have 5x7 and where i could get them. I'll update you when they reply back.

Edwin.

Hello Steve,

Haven't received any response from Ilford Switzerland regarding 5x7 film. I'd offer use of my darkroom (ATL-2200 set-up that is until the plumbers install the drains and tempered water supply) so you can bring in the film from the US and process your film here but I don't have 5x7 tanks and PMK is terribly expensive in Europe (53.- euros for the 50L photographer's formulary kit available from monochrom.com or their store in Berlin) so you'll still run into logistical problems.

Hope you were able to source your film from the UK. I'll also contact ars-imago if they could source it and give you an update as soon as I receive an answer.

Cheers,

Edwin.

Edwin / Schaubild,

Danke! I appreciate the tips. I have a message into Calumet to see if they ship film to Switzerland. A friend was in Berlin 2 years ago and had dificulties working with Calumet. Ars-Imago has 5x7 but is back ordered 15 days. Lotus doesn't seem to carry ilford film anymore (seems that way by their website - email sent). Bottom line it seems like I have more options with 4x5 then 5x7... but I am still undecided which way I should go. Since I leave in 6 weeks I must make up my mind soon.

Edwin,

Thanks for the kind offer of the Darkroom. I had planned to take the film home with me and process it at home. I feel if I can keep the film to only one pass of x-ray - I *should* be okay - especially with a 125 speed film (FP4+). I just feel that you are taking chances when the film is x-rayed multiple times.

Cheers!
Steve
