Hi,
I was looking for some lens specs and stumbled across a potentially interesting item for sale on an obscure Belgian website. Placed on feb. 27, so perhaps it's sold already - I didn't bother asking.

You don't seem to find these giants too often. They're big & bulky, but possibly cheaper than a Gowland 4x5 TLR. I can only remember seeing an add for it somewhere, where a lady was portrayed handling one of these. There wasn't much left of the lady to look at, most of her elegant body disappeared behind the camera.

In case you're interested, follow this link:
Cambo TWR 45, and you will find the add. It's in Belgian (eh, Dutch), but I guess you can figure out for yourselves what 4 LF lenses come with this big beauty. Asking price is 2000 euro. Have no idea if this is about right.
Ask me if you're in severe need of a translation. I'd be happy to help.

Cheers, medform-norm

The Xenar is the taking lens and the Heliar is the viewing lens in the 150 set? That just ain't right.

David passed the Dutch language test! Hurray.

Okay, all kidding aside. I did think that was a little odd myself. Still, these are potentially nice lenses. Perhaps the seller has collected this set by himself - without a lot of knowledge of this camera??? Or inherited it from his dying grandfather who did not succeed in communicating to his grandson the finer aspects of the Cambo TWR? Only thing that would solve this peculiarity would be to call the seller himself and ask...

and this one's even bigger!

a real Mac-Van 5x7 TLR ! On sale! Never been close to one before, other than in front of my screen... Maybe I could park my Mac inside and the word Mac-Van would get a new meaning....

Okay, I confess. I'm a sucker for big mirror reflex types of camera. That's why we own not one, not two, but three! Optika IIa aka Rittreck 6x9 SLR's. And always on the look out for more...
Cheers, medform-norm

PS It just occurred to me...this collection that is one sale.. it seems so familiar? Like I should know who's collection is on sale here? Anyone else has that feeling too?

Of course, you can also have an IBM 760 thinkpad for only 10 euros.

I know it is off-topic, but those really were not IBM's best effort. 10 Euros (plus probably another 20 to ship in the EU, those were tanks), would be too much.

Norm,

there is one up at eprey.de right now:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=8277&item=7500124236&rd=1

Obviously not the one you found, different taking lens.

Hallöchen Roman,

yes, and it's on sale at FotoAbro, one of the few Dutch shops that still sell medium and large format stuff. One would expect a Cambo to turn up somewhere in the Nether-Rhine region. The Cambo is after all made in Kampen, Holland. But they always go at bargain prices - no one seems to want them anymore. Too clumsy, I guess.

Did you notice that a Dutch seller is selling it on eprey.DE? That's because he would get nowhere when selling it on the eprey.NL - Holland is really backwater country when it comes to cameras. They seem to know only four brands: Nikon (35mmSLR), Leica (35mm RF), Hassy's for 120 and Sinars for LF. It's not only outrageous, it's rather limiting and utterly depressing, especially if one happens to have a completely different taste in cameras. And most of the lay folk never bought anything better than a Petri, a Zorki or a Praktika - because they were so CHEAP - never mind if they were any GOOD. *sigh*
I'm so glad there is internet to connect me to the photographically more educated parts of the world.

Schöne Grüße,
