How to set a price for a polaroid?

I'm in front of a dilemma...

Some people have told me that they might be interested in some of my work, namely my polaroids, which are unique pieces, and are not reproductible...

How much can I reasonably charge for a 4x5 transfer or print, mounted or not?

I'm really in the dark, here, so any ballpark figure might be useful...

That's a difficult question. I'd think it would depend, in part, on the subject matter and how unique the image might be, along with the size of the Polaroid. My suggestion would be to start with a comparable print price, and then add some factor for the one-of nature of the image. Unless the subject matter was very unique, I'm not sure that a factor of more than 2x would be appropriate, however - especially for smaller-sized Polaroids. Just my opinion, though.

I guess a lot of it has to do with your feelings about the particular item as well. If it really means something to you, then your price would have to be a lot higher. I would be most concerned about what it is worth to you and let the chips fall as they may. I think you will be happier to have not sold it than to have sacrificed it for far to small an amount. If it doesn't mean that much to you, it is probably worth it to give it a good home, perhaps even at a lower price than it is "worth." Tough call, however, and I have absolutely no way of suggesting a specific price for something like that.

It would depend on how much people are willing to pay for your other work. The guarantee of uniqueness might be worth a bit more.

this is always a hard one to determine. For me, i am not in the "mood" to sell my sx-70 manipulations, so i have chosen to have them reproduced, but in a short edition.

On the other hand , an emulison lift, it would depend. Can i come close to reproducting a similar final image or not, that is my guide line. If i can, and i have, i would sell the orginal; on the other hand i have a some that are truly accidents and can't be re-created; so i would take the same position i do with the sx-70 work.

Needless to say I have'nt sold any, but that was sort of the point...

Thanks for the input guys, 2500 euros, Ole, that's not a bad idea!
My potential buyers will thing i'm absolutely mad, but hey, I do polaroids and ULF, they already think I'm mad!

And indeed, joe, I'd also rather not sell at 2500 than not sell at 250...
