Somehow (I guess I dropped my camera) the filter is stuck on my lens. I can see its at a very slight angle (like its crossing the threads).

Is there anyway to get it off? Its really on there tight. Is there a special tool to remove it? I see two small indendations at 180 degrees apart on the inner side of the filter. I am wondering if there is a tool to pull it off.

Any ideas?

Try a jar opener -- a sheet of rubber you fold over the jar lid and twist. Or a pliers, grabbing onto one side of the filter (only) to start it turning. Those indentations probably are just for the rind inside the filter that holds the glass snug.

The bottom of a tennis shoe often works for me, firmly press the filter ring to the bottom of the shoe and twist counter clockwise sharply, this should get it past the problem and and allow you to nudge it off the lens.

So I went into a local mom-and-pop camera store in my town (Sam's Camera Exchange in Mt. Kisco) and we tried a filter wrench. When that didn't work, they called their other location and an employee who worked there for quite some time recommended using a rubber band. Having nothing to lose, I put the rubber band on twice and it twisted right off. Without the rubber band, I couldn't get it to budge.

Problem solved!
