Isn't Kodak published formula for D-72 considered to be close to Dektol in function? If not, what would be a published formula that works like Dektol?

D-72 is the published equivalent of Dektol. The only difference between the two lies in sundry chemicals in Dektol that enhance keeping properties in packaging.
Yes, D-72 is essentially equivilent to Dektol.
