HIE in a Maxxum 7?

Hell! I just bought a new Minolta Maxxum 7 and noticed that it uses an IR film counter sensor. If I run a roll of HIE through it, will the film get fogged, and if so, what part? Thanks in advance!

You must try for yourself. Some cameras with IR film counter sensor fog only perforated part of film, some small part of picture so you still can use it, and some fog so much frame that are not good for IR film. For example Canon, it is told that EOS are not suitable for IR film, but many EOS shooters reports they have no problems.

So, in short, it is best to shoot one or few rolls of HIE through Maxxum 7 and check for yourself.

(This is one of those posts that doesn't add anything to the biscution, but...) I have a Maxxum 7 and never dared to try (I normally use IR film in the other camera), and I'd also like to know this answer.

By the way, you bought a great camera....

Thanks for the replies! Yes, the 7 is a great camera. I bought it to compliment my 7D and to also replace my 7xi & 800si film bodies...but I guess I'll be keeping the 800si for exclusive IR use. I will try running some shots through the 7 and report back!

Problem with answer on this question is that what one photographer think is acceptable area of frame fogged, and will use IR film in that camera, other photographers can think is unacceptable are of fogging. That is why everyone should check for itself, and not take others opinion as granted.

For exaple I have friend to whom I gave one filter from my Rollei 50mm (35mm) lens to use on his 127mm Mamiya lens. And Rollei filter thread is 52 and Mamiya is 77mm. So you can imagine hom much vignetting he has. But he never mind that and continue to use that filter!...
