Hey APUG,

I'm Walter. I'm an amateur photographer from Calgary AB. I have a gallery online at Dead Link Removed, but I warn you that the majority of the images there were captured on a digital sensor

I'm planning to get a 4x5 soon (I'm agonizing over field vs. view right now, and most seriously considering a shenhao or tachihara), and I currently shoot a couple of 6x6 TLRs (a lubitel 166B, and a late 30s or early 40s rolleiflex automat), plus the odd roll of 35mm slides.

Digital has been an incredibly useful tool for learning photographic techniques and the consequences of different types of lighting, and while I'm sure there's going to be a learning curve, I think this will be useful in my foray into LF.

I look forward to seeing what goes on here at APUG.

Cheers,
Walter

Hi Walter, welcome aboard APUG

If the nature images on your website are any indication, I'd say you were meant to use a 4x5!

Murray...who's just a bit west of you .

Walter, we have a small group of us who get together once a month (excluding the summer) to shoot the bull about photography, show prints, eat, etc. We're mostly LF, with some smaller format guys (and gals). We generally stick to the NW, with a couple of folks who are from other areas of the city....if you're interested, let me know.....

Hey, it's good to know there are LF shooters in Calgary. I'm pretty busy for the next couple of months (I have my PhD candidacy exam in the first week of November) so I'm not planning to add any extra activities to my schedule, but after that I'll definitely try to get in contact with you guys (and gals). I'm planning to get a LF rig as sort of a celebration for passing (or a consolation prize if I'm kicked out of my program ). I am in the northwest.

Welcome to APUG. I am in Calgary as well, though I shoot 35mm slides exclusively. The problem I am having is to find time between a job, courses, and the family. Photography is somewhat lower on my list these days...

Hey CLA

Yeah, I'm turning towards the dark side. I bought a slide projector a couple of weeks ago and a beautiful silver screen for projecting them onto - for some of the images it was the first time I've seen them larger than a thumbnail. There's something so relaxing and nice about sitting back in your living room with the hum of the projector fan and these massive beautiful images projected up in front of you. I'm going to shoot more slides.
