Hi! This is from 2 new users (husband and wife). My wife has a degree in photography and I am an electrical engineer. I became interested in photogrpahy about 3 years ago - and got over digital about 2 years ago (WAAAAY too limited IMNSHO).

We settled in Rochester about 3 years ago and are dusting off the photo gear about a month ago (Nikon FM2, Hasselblad 500, Manual Focus Olympus, and we just got a Mamiya 7ii - though not sure if that one is staying)

Greetings!!

Greetings from New Jersey. I was in Rochester two weeks ago to visit some friends. We even made it to the Eastman house. Nice town.

Bromo, have you been to George Eastman House yet? I've always wondered what it is like, and how much of their collection is on display at any given time.

My wife worked there in the 1980's but we haven't been there since we've moved here - something we intend to correct. From what she says, it is a great experience, though I have no idea how much of the collection is on display at any time.

Bomoo -

Welcome from Saratoga Springs!

My wife and I were in Rochester a couple of months ago to visit the Eastman House. We were last there about 20 years ago, and it has been enlarged a bit.

There are three galleries - one is a technology show that displays cameras - everythihng from an 11x14 view camera to an early-generation TV camera, as well as a lot of gimmick cameras. While the display is in a different from from 20 years ago, the show itself has not changed.

The second gallery shows portraiture. Again, this appears to be a regular feature, and it's neat to see original prints of images that you normally see only in books and magazines.

The third gallery is the changing display. The show when we were there in late June was so cerebral that this engineer couldn't understand it.

One of the nice things about Rochester is that you are so close to the Finger Lakes wineries.

If you are talking about the picturing Eden show, it's one of the best I've seen in a long time. A very good show with some great work.

Eastman house has undergone some changes in the last 10 or so years. They moved the gift shop and made it larger and added a cafe/coffee shop. The camera collection you saw was not a 'full-time' exhibit. There used to be a permanent equipment exhibit, but that is now where the gift shop is.

It depends how much of the collection is on display. Usually its not much though, depends on the other shows. There is no space dedicated to display images from the collection. But, if you have reason you can go into the archives to view works - if you are a student or doing research, etc.

But if the Eden show is still up, see it while you can. There is great alt process stuff, Starn brothers work, etc.

Welcome from wine country in the Finger Lakes of central New York. Come visit us on the Cayuga wine trail lots to see and do. Harvest starts in two weeks; great picture taking opportunity.
