I mixed up my first batch of gold toner last night. I think that something went wrong. When I added the gold chloride to the ammonium thiocyanate, the solution turned brown and precipitate formed. It also did not seem to have any toning action on test prints. I used distilled water to eliminate the chance of contamination. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Greetings, Im sorry to hear of your gold chloride solution "going off" before being able to use it. It appears that your gold was knocked out of liquid form back in to solid in the form of brown depoist of which is gold and should be saved for refinement. If you have any other questions concerning this I would be more than happy to talk to you in depth and at length about gold chloride, its production and application.
