Hi All,

The gallery is now open to all Members (not just subscribers). As with some functions such as private messaging a Member account will need 20 forum posts to upload gallery images and to comment.

(There is some concern that the gallery was an extra incentive to subscribe to photrio, but for a while now it seems our subscriptions come from 'the heart' more so than for unlocking features. It still makes sense in the classifieds as it helps us keep bad actors away. Our subscriptions start at $2 a month: https://www.photrio.com/forum/pages/supportus/ -It doesn't sound like much, but when 100s contribute the $2 it adds up and keeps us ticking.)

If you are a long-time lurker who does not post but would like to upload gallery images please contact me: sean@photrio.com and please include your forum username.

If you have any problems just let me know.

Thanks!
Sean

Hi Sean,
thank you again for opening up the gallery.
I just uploaded a picture, but when it was time for the last step, I got this message:
You reached your daily upload limit (0 uploads per day).
Did I misunderstand that the gallery is open for everyone to upload as well as to comment, or is there an issue on the site's end?
Thanks!

Sorry, looks like a misconfig, investigating. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I don't know what this warning is, but it tells me "content type" is incorrect (it's a digital file) so I deleted it, then tried to add same and it won't let me save saying "choose content type" and there is no such thing I can choose, all I see is:

Something worth trying, if you haven't, until you get a response from those who know:
when I get that "Oops" message on firefox, I switch to chrome and it goes away.🤷‍♀️

In Standard Gallery I do get the content to choose, that was in new Gallery I created that gives me trouble.

You don't have that type of media "ticked" at the top of the site page.

"Digital" tick only fixed fairly unimportant warning. Cannot add a file to created folder as it is asking for content choice and that section is blocked off with message as before

Maybe it's just me, but the Gallery has a very strange UI which makes it hard to explore someone's work. Using @Sean as an example:
  1. I click on his media link.
  2. Perfect, I see the photo of a dog titled "Jasper", so I click on it.
  3. Then I click "Next" and I see... absolutely random photo by another Photrio member. WTF?
Don't we all expect to see the next image in Sean's portfolio in step 3? Is this configurable somehow?

I wonder if that's the result of the picture not being in a particular album created by Sean. By the way, I wonder if there could be an easier way to create an album and add already-uploaded pictures to it. I haven't found that option.

I am not understanding you here - you shouldn't be able to create a "Gallery".
Do you mean that you created an Album?
If that is what you did, and you didn't have Digital "ticked" at the time you created it, you may have made it a non-digital album.

No, it's me too. I never look in the gallery because I can't explore the images in one gallery or from one user. It's always a stream of random images. What's the trick?

Okay, I may have replicated the problem - it appears to occur when you upload to an Album (which I've never used personally).
I get the same "You must choose a content type.
I've tried to flag it for Sean's attention - although because it won't upload, it is hard to flag!

To look at one member's images, click on a member's user name anywhere on the site.
That should show you part of their profile, which should include two clickable links. Messages - which will take you to their posts - and Media - which will take you to their images.
And as for the specific Galleries.
Click on the Gallery Tab. On the right of the screen you should see Navigation.
Under that you will see this:
1680043650564.png

Click on the two down arrows beside Photrio Galleries and Member Organized Functions and that will reveal two sub-menus:
1680043780506.png

Click on one of those links - say the Standard Gallery - and the results you will then see will be limited to that Gallery, and the Next button will move you through that Gallery.
You can restrict Media searches to that Gallery.
I think where most people get confused is that they enter into the Gallery system using the "Latest Gallery" function in the sidebar at the side of the screen. That function only shows the result of one particular search of Gallery images - a reverse chronological search of all those images you have not yet viewed. That is why images seem to disappear if you look at something, and then want to get back to them later - when you are using that particular search, it ticks viewed images as having been viewed, and then takes them off that link.
If you want to approach the Gallery more systematically, it works better if you go into the Gallery system using the Gallery link at the top.
The Gallery system is an add-on to the main site software. My understanding is that Sean had to put a fair amount of work into trying to get it to integrate well.

Wouldn't it be nice if you can just have one click from the particular gallery photo to take you to all of the particular member's photos in a similar gallery format?

That is a useful suggestion. I'll flag it to make sure Sean sees it.
