Good news for us film users.

Just received this from Jerry Deeney at Fuji Professional UK

Dear Friends

We have just launched a brand new website today called:
Dead Link Removed

The site is entirely dedicated to photographers that shoot on film. It will
offer film photographers a community to show off their images and discuss
all things film, be able to buy 'out of date' and 'short dated' stock, buy
and sell camera equipment and suggest and seek out dusty little back street
shops that sell film cameras.

There are more web functionality options to come, and as you will see we
have a bit of a 'chicken & egg' situation, so all sections are looking a
bit empty at the moment, as we have literally only just gone live.

Please sign up today. All sign ups are automatically entered into our prize
draw to win £200 worth of Fujifilm Professional film of your choice and a
host of choose film goodies that include t-shirts, badges, stickers and our
very own choose film branded beer!

If you are at Focus-on-Imaging at the NEC in Birmingham this weekend/next
week, please do come and join us on the Fujifilm stand where we will be
launching the choose film website and drinking some choose film beer.

Please spread the word to anyone you know that shoots on film.

Many thanks
Jerry

Looks like those making it to Focus will have to make at least one refreshment stop to their stand there!

I think we should commend Fuji for making this initiative.

Looks like something worth signing up for.... so I have!

This is good to see considering that Fuji are also one of the major players in digital and, arguably, have more to gain from persuading people away from film instead of promoting it.

Certainly good to hear that Fuji is a committed as ever to encourage film use. I wish that Kodak thought the same. In fact, I believe it would be in their best interest and their shareholders to reduce the fall of consumer film sales.

Sweetness. One more thing that helps film keep from having its identity and language diluted and stolen. Baby steps!

The word is spreading. I was in a camera shop yesterday in Northampton, UK and I was talking film in general to the assistant and he said without any prompting or suggestion on my part: " Of course Fuji is committed to film."

Yet further proof now contained in the website.

Interesting they have us pegged as fancy beer drinkers. Certainly accurate in my case.

The motif I guess is supposed to suggest the love of film that the members of the site will no doubt have. I think it shows a simple yet a powerful message. Fuji are behind us!

Good thing. Was I the only one who had this in mind:

"choose life. choose a job. choose a career. choose a family. choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disk players and electrical tin openers........ Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. choose a starter home. choose your friends. choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on sunday morning. choose sitting on the coach watching mind numbing , spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in amiserable home nothing more than an embarassement to the selfish, fucked-up brats
you spawned to replace yourself. choose your futur. choose life. but why would i want to do a thing like that?

I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? there are no reasons.

Who needs reasons when you've got film?"

I have signed up too, it seems to be UK oriented, but I hope it will become international.

We have to support these good iniciatives!

I have always been fond of Fuji's attitude towards traditional products. In a way it makes me sad that Kodak has gone the opposite direction to "choose digital"..

Kodak has presented Fuji with an opportunity to differentiate themselves among film users and they're wise enough to take advantage of it.

If Fuji is being caluclating in this regard...if they've put up a site to take our pulse...that's fine with me.

Now, may please have some B&W sheet film that's not in quickloads? :D

fuji has also gone digital, and at some levels far more successfully. Kodak, has for some reason, decided to take at best a reserved position with regard to the promotion of film and at worst a negative position. One would think they could promote both.

In the grand scheme of things fuji's new site is not a big investment, but it is pretty clear, form those posting here, that it will have a good return.

Good for Fuji Film UK. I think it is a smart idea to promote the medium through an online community. Fuji is quite successful in the digital realm but unlike Kodak, they are proud of their film roots and are smart to promote that part of the business as well.

I have signed up too. Currently testing Neopan 400 as a viable alternative to Tri-X, should it be in short supply or worse. It is so reassuring to have some positive feedback from the film manufacturers, and Fuji (along with Ilford), have been pro-active in this respect. Long may it continue !!!!!!
