Hi! Nice to be here:smile:
My name is Alexandra, I'm a french traditional photographer and as you will see i'm not really comfortable with english writing:sad: so sad... i love this language so much!
My problem is that I would like to write a sentence to describe my work (silver film, no flash, no retouching) to introduce some slideshow to my MySpace's profile.
My request is could you please give me your opinion about the sentences following:
1- all the photographs were carried out with silver films, without
flash nor final improvements.
2- silver base, no flash nor cheating on neither shot!
3- all pics 100% silver guaranteed! No flash, no digi-fiddling.
4- all these photographs have been taken on silver halide film without flash and without retouching.
5- all photography were made using film-no flash, no editing

Which one do you like better, or have you another suggestion?
It would be nice if you can help me!:D

All photographs have been produced in available light conditions using traditional (silver based) materials and methods.

Hope that this helps. There are any number of ways that this could be expressed. The preceding has been one of them.

Thanks Donald!
Do you think it ins't necessary to explaining that there is no digital retouching?!

You ask a valid question. Since digital is not a traditional method, it would automatically translate to it has not been used.

I have found that many people do not understand what 'traditional' means.

Obviously we do, but ordinary people are as sensitized as us (ha ha)

It might be useful as well to say that the original photographs have been scanned and uploaded to MySpace, without any intervening digital modification.

I agree that many do not know what "traditional" means. I would add "with no digital manipulation or retouching" to what Donald suggested.

Thanks to Donald, Bob, Matt, Boyooso, and Kevin.
I will ponder over all of your suggestions.
If there is other suggestion... don't hesitate!

As an anglo working and living/raising a family in French for more than 25 years, my feel for the right way to express this is to go with Donald Miller's original suggestion. I'd not include the parentheses around "silver halide".

"All photographs have been produced in available light conditions using traditional silver based materials and methods."

APUG est super chouette, oui?

Here's a slight variation:

"All photographs were taken in available light, using traditional silver-based materials and methods."

Ma version, in English: "all pictures were taken under natural light, and made on traditional silver gelatin materials without retouching or digital interventions."

Merci! I personnally use the orthography "astheure", as it shows more linguistic autonomy...

Were the pictures taken in natural light (ie not artificial) or available light - which includes both natural and artificial but not flash, in the sense that I believe those descriptions are generally understood?

Hi, Helen B!

The pictures were taken in available light more often in artificial than natural,
I take pictures of musicians on stage when performing. So, there is always color spot light and the effect is strong color on the pics it seems as if it is digital manipulation in it and it isn't, except the scann:wink: . What I would like is that a short sentence describe my work in a way to be understandable by photographers as well as not professionals one.

I'd go along with Bob's 'no flash' or Roger's 'without flash' as the most simple and clear descriptions of the light.

I usually state that no animals were harmed in the making of this photograph.

I’m afraid that I can’t make the same claim because I often have to thrash at least one of my assistants for inexcusable errors such as referring to ‘degrees kelvin’ instead of just ‘kelvin’.

Helen, do you use a whip ? Are you dressed in leather when you do that ? Can I be your assistant ?
