On a brief exchange of emails I had with Sean, he told me that after trying FP4+ with Ilfosol S he decided to stick with LC29 which he really likes.
I never heard of that developer.

Any more info on the developer itself and the combination with LC29?

Never used the Ilfosol but I've done many rolls of FP4+ and HP5 in LC29 and always been very happy with the results.

YMMV.

it used to be labelled "Plus" around here until fairly recently (although if you checked the smaller print, it called it LC29)

I use it most of the time (occasionly try something else usually if I have a decent amount of film to process I'll mix up some Xtol or Microphen).

Does a company sell this LC29 developer or is it mixed by hand?
What properties does it have?
Is it fast? Sharp? Smooth?

Why does it go well with FP4+?

I am asking because I love Ilfosol S and FP4+ and I am curious about this other combination.

Ilford's LC-29 seems to be closely related to Kodak HC-110 and Ilford's HC. Is this accurate?

Brad,

Yes, the info sheet from Ilford says:

"It is based on the technology used in Ilford Ilfotec HC developer but is formulated to be an easy to pour liquid for small volume film processing."

Never used the HC, but could this just be a different solvent to make it easier to handle than HC (or HC-110)? Recommended dilution rates are 1+29 (hence the name? Liquid Concentrate 1+29 = LC29), 1+19, and 1+9, and either one shot or reusable during one working session.

Have not used it, but just ran my first try at Ilfosol S an hour ago and the data sheet for the Ilford liquid developers is right here by the keyboard.

Hey Ari,
Attached is Ilford's specs on it's liquid developers. Doesn't say too much really and I've never tried it with Perceptol, ID-11, and Microphen and Ilfosol dominating the Ilford shelves in Athens. You probably have to try it yourself but just stick with Ilfosol if you like it. Six months ago, I switched from ID-11 to Peter Hogan's Prescysol for my preferred developer of FP4+ (it does wonders in high contrast light) but I still love ID-11 and Perceptol with HP5+. Good luck in your search.

I was messing around with staining developers like PMK and looking for something that was relatively easy to import to Greece, found Prescysol and really liked it with every film I have laying around (except HP5+). Peter Hogan seems to pop in at APUG every so often and can be found here http://www.monochromephotography.com/developer.htm He was very easy to deal with and gave great service. I just wish it was available in powder form... I don't like the idea of sending liquid chems via courier.
