I have a 5litre container of Fotospeed PD5 that I hadn't used for half a year or so (stored in dark and cool conditions) until the the other day. It's now brown, instead of clear.

The developer is a year or so away from its best before date and prints seem to come out fine. Is this change in colour normal for print developers?

It's a PQ dev, they have better shelf life than MQ devs but all devs go off in half full containers over about 6 months, if it's still working it's on the turn, so get it used up.

I've used print developers when they have gone brown without any problems at all,I've always regarded it as something that happens with print developers, and if it suddenly stops working then its not like you have lost some irreplaceable negatives, just a sheet of printing paper, so just go on using it untill it stops working,I do, and i never throw away that much,Richard
