If you are speaking of Efke Emaks graded, this is an excellent paper. It is the same paper as Cachet Expo RF, Maco Expo RF, J&C Nuance, and formerly J&C Exposition graded.

The different brands use different grading schemes, but there are basically three grades, which are variously called 1/2/3, 2/3/4, and soft/normal/hard. Just be sure you know relatively which you are using within each brand.

I've used it a bit.

It is Sloooow. Might be a variation in my batch, but I'm getting exposures totaling 1,5 minutes at f/4 on 18x24 cm paper. Compared to 15-30 sec at f/5.6 on other types of paper (yes the filters are off when I print on Emaks).

Developing in Neutol WA 1+14 for 3 minutes.

It has superb shadow separation, and even with very long exposures the shadows have good texture. I took a while to get used to that. Initially I found it very flat and dull, because I had not dared increasing the exposure enough. My mistake.

It does curl more than other papers I use, which is a nuisance. Even after a good while in the heat press the papers "bow" toward the emulsion surface.

Very easy to tone in Selenium and Viradon. Probably in gold/thiocarb/sepia as well.

It also responds very nicely to amidol and waterbath control.

The softest grade is somewhere between 1 and 2 when compared to another paper like Ilford Galerie, and the middle grade is about 2.5 on that scale. I rarely use the hardest grade.

When I bought the J&C Nuance Normal grade, it turned up to be more like a 2 than a 2.5, at least if I compare with MGIV's grades. I'm a bit confused with the labelling at Freestyle, I suppose that their 2/3/4 sequence would mean that their G3 is my Nuance Normal, ergo a 2-ish grade?

Yes, that's it. Cachet and Maco Expo RF also used the 2/3/4 scheme. Personally I find I use more of the softest grade than the middle grade, and relatively little of the hardest grade.

Does it really have an off-white base? The freestyle site says 'Fotokemika Emaks is a silver-rich neutral tone chlorobromide emulsion on a double-weight, warm, off-white, fiber base.' A bit confusing, how can it be neutral and warm at once?

The base is less bright than Galerie, but not as warm as Fortezo Elegance or the old Portriga. Blacks are slightly on the warm side, but not as brownish as a real warmtone paper.

I'm going to try it next week. I have been printing all week on Foma Variant and I'm quite happy with it.
I guess this Emak should lith well.

M&P's enlarging formula has worked very well with Emaks/Expo/Nuance in my experience, but it may be sensitive to the quality of the amidol and your water. I think Donald Miller was having some fogging issues, but as I recall he made some adjustment or maybe tried a different formula and that took care of it. If you do a search for his threads on J&C Nuance, I think he discusses it.

David, Do you have an Amidol Recipe for the nuance that will make it on the "Warm" side?
I just recently managed to get my hands on some of the Chinese Amidol from a fellow APUGER and have used it in the Ansco 113 recipe with 2g of Citric accid. It does come out a little on the blue side for my taste, even with a bit more pot bromide.

Have printed on Nuance using Ilford WT, Agfa Neutol WT and Dektol and all have toned beautifully in KRST. (Only toner i have used) Nice dark brown blacks.
David thanks, any limit to how much KBr one can use in Amidol and any other drawbacks going to far?

With the Slavich it is beautiful in Ansco 130. Just beautiful.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists) picture is developed in Maco Superlith. (The picture actually looks a bit more pink than the real paper that is more yellow.) It looks great. I think the glossy Emaks has a wonderful surface. I am not really sure if new paper looks exactly the same though, as this is quite old, I only use it for lith.
