Hubby and I had a rare night out and went to some of the Fotofest opening receptions last night. I thought I would mention a few of the shows here, in case anyone is in the Houston area and cared to look at some very fine images: Billie Mercer at Goldsberry Gallery on Colquitt--all images done with a Holga! Speaking of Holgas, I really enjoyed the Toy Joy show and seeing Jeremy Moore's work in person! Really cool to see all these photographers in there with Holgas around thier necks! Watermark Gallery on Lake had some great images, my favorite being 5 portraits on the back wall (by Dave Halliday, I think). Keith Carter had a lovely show, as always at McMurtry Gallery on Lake St.

This is just a smattering of what is out there presently. It is a photographer's heaven!! If anyone is even close to Space City, it is well worth a visit to do some gallery-hopping.

If anyone else has seen any of the shows, please share!

Don't forget to visit De Santos Gallery for an interesting show by Maria Martinez-Canas. Ever wonder what is the minimal amount of information needed in a photograph for the viewer to form a story? Find out at that show.

Also check out Brent Phelps at John Cleary for some color panoramas of the Lewis and Clark expedition campsites - updated to the present in another re-photographic project.

You MUST revisit the Watermark and check out Kerik's work there! I pretty much ignored most of the work on the walls as I was sucked into a world of collodian on aluminum. Cara had to take away my credit card :D

While I have not seen this show, I have seen Billie Mercer's images at her house in Houston and in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She is quite the shooter. And very nice.

Jeremy - while she's not looking, sneak that card away from her! Were they framed and on the wall? I just sent three plates to them at the last minute and wasn't sure if they were going to make the walls or not. This is the first time any of my collodion work has been exhibited and I'm wondering how it's going to play...

Kerik, I pulled the box of prints out with your name on it to look at them after finding the 3 collodion plates matted and in the print rack (but not on the wall). The "Creepy Clown" image really called to me, but lack of a job and no $$$ (not to mention Cara holding my wallet in a death grip) forced me back to reality

The images were stunning to say the very, very least. Anyone who has seen these things in the Apug gallery don't know what they are missing, the physical presence of the images is amazing.

It was so crowded Saturday that I did not get a chance to see anything except those on the walls (and barely even those!). I'll go back soon and take a look, Kerik! I left the shows so pumped up and inspired! Its so good to be back on the Dark Side!
