Check out film. Disfarmer. Who knew?
found this by accident when finding stuff for my house bound students
I saw that 1-2 year ago.I'll watch the Disfarmer in a bit. Also on Amazon Prime, a documentary about Pedro E. Guerrero, from Mesa Arizona. He photographed for Frank Lloyd Wright in the 30s, and maybe later, I'm about 1/3 way into this one.
Watched this last night and loved it. Thanks for the heads-up...Check out film. Disfarmer. Who knew?

Disfarmer Portrait of America
I'm going to go in a different direction here. I was born in a small Southern town, as were my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents etc. Parts of the documentary were excellent. My Grandparents told me stories about going to town, a different town and a different photographer, to get their photo made during the depression. It was entertainment with a product at the end.
Then we went from the photos or interviews with people who were there, to the opinions of art critics and interpretations that seek to invalidate the stories of those who were there as some sort of collective delusion. The fact is that sometimes, more often than not, when many people tell you the same thing, it's because that thing is true.
These are valuable portraits, not because someone is willing to pay $20,000 for a print, but because they capture a moment. But it is interesting that 25 cents of 1935 entainment sells for $20,000 or more in New York.
The Pedro E. Guerrero documentary was excellent. His career went from working for Wright to running a photo unit in the Army, to Madison Avenue, to documenting artists.
