Well bit the bullet and my first medium format camera is on a ups truck coming to it's new home. I picked up a beast... GX680 Fuji.

Can't wait for it to get here and to try it out

Figured I would shout a hello to
y'all!

Hello, notx.

Congrats on the MF. After a near lifetime of 35mm, I've just acquire a MF too (Hassey 503CXi).

Guess we're all "inheriting" MF gear from the "gone to digi, Pro crowd".

Name here is George. What's yours?

That is a beast for MF. Enjoy it. Look forward to seeing some results.

Thanks! My name is Rob, and some is true... but honestly I have an issue thinking many of these cameras are just being replaced by Digital. But I do use both.

Thanks Rich, and I will post after I get some shots! Hopefully I will get to take this camera on a trip to Virginia City to give it a workout.

Yeah, you got yourself one good challenge from the start! I've seen many of these go for dirt cheap (compared to what they sold for as new). A good camera that will hopefully last you many happy years.

Is there any other way? Thanks!

Which was one of the reasons it was possible! These have dropped to inanse prices.

Congrats Rob on your leap into MF. Those Fuji optics are tack sharp. I have two Fuji MF rangefinders and love the results I get from them.
Enjoy and welcome to APUG!

Thanks Gene!

I am looking forward to it! And soon I am going to have to pick my second lens... but not for at least a month or two (have to learn the system some).

Congrats on the "upgrade"..... I have been using my Mamiya TLR and Pentax 645 for about 2 years and ever since I bought them (2 weeks apart) I have not touched a 35mm.......

I love everything about shooting MF.... From loading the film into reels, archiving is easier, and the quality is just awesome.... It has changed me as a photographer too.... I'm not sure if its havng less shots on a roll or just having an overall feeling that every shot is just so much more valuable, but I am shooting a lot less and getting a lot more.

I am dusting off the Canon AE1's this weekend..... That will be fun.

cheers

Well done Rob, they are beautiful cameras. Use it for a year and you'll look like Arnie or Sly. Have you got a big tripod ready?

Excellent choice Rob. I inherited a GX680 II as my first ever camera. I've since used a number of different cameras, but the Fuji is the one I grab first. There are a couple of guys on here - Thomas Sauerwein comes to mind first - that do really great work with the GX680. I'm sure you will love it. I just picked up the 80mm lens for about $250 on Ebay. At those prices, there is no better value in photography today IMO. Take care.

Those lenses are achingly sharp. Now you'll need to budget for an APO enlarger lens to wring it all out! Have fun, that's a great, versatile rig.

Not to mention contact sheets are easier to examine! (Old eyes )
