Efke KB14 20asa Expired 35mm

Hi Everyone,

I've been given some old refridgerated film again, two rolls of which are Efke KB14 35mm the box says it's 14din 20asa the rolls expired in 1990/91.

I'm planning to expose it at 20asa and develop it in Rodinal 1+50. Any advice or suggestions on it's use and/or development times are as always very welcome.

Try looking for times for Efke 25 and see what is out there. This may be very close to the same thing. If it was cool the whole time, it should work very well. You may want to try a snip test on the first roll just to see how close you are.

KB14 should be the same as KB25. The only reason for the name change was the switch from °DIN to ISO values for the nominal film sensitivity.

While it's the same film it wasn't strictly the switch to ISO from Din. The ISO speed is the international equivalent of the older ASA and DIN.

Back in the 60's with the advent of more accurate shutters, light meters etc the ASA began using a less conservative method of determining film speed this resulted in many filmd having a speed increase of around a third of a stop.

FP3 went from 100ASA to 125ASA, HP3 320ASA to 400ASA, these were the two films I used when I first began photography serousl around 68-69.

Adox KB 14 was not renamed except to EFKE KB14 and the ASA/DIN not changed by EFKE until much more recently, but you can see the same third of a stop increase in the new name.

I'm currently printing some FP3 negs from very erly 50's and they were in the Metal film cannister. There's no ASA only Ilford meter 34°, Ilford Speed Group G, and Weston Speed 200

Treat it like Efke KB25. If it's been refrigerated all this time it should be OK.

Thanks for the replies everyone, soon as we get some reasonable light and a suitable subject I'll give them a try. Shame I only have 2 rolls to try but better than nothing.

Ian I should have guessed you had the answer, sorry I didn't realise I had them when you suggested I give Efke a try
