Does anyone know the recipe for Edwal Platinum ll print dev.?

I have been using it with Iflord MG WT and getting great results. While I can still purchase it locally, I would like have the option of mixing a home brew equivalent in case it becomes harder to get.

Craig, others here can reply for sure, but I think that it is a proprietary formula, like Edwal Ultra Black. That being the case, no home brew equivalent. I like this developer as well, so will be interested in what home brew others think would be like it.

Thanks for the tip Magic,

The MSDS for Platinum ll lists the following ingredients:

Sodium Sulphite
Dimezone-S
Potassium Carbonate
Hydroquinone
Sodium Bromide
Versene
Non-hazardous ingredients (whatever that may be....water?)

Now, I guess the proportions would need to be worked out.

Versene? what the heck is Versene?

Oh well, back to Google....

I think it is a trade name for a mixture of sodium hydroxide and ETDA. What I can find froma chemical supplier, the ratio is 0.5% sodium hydroxide, 37% ETDA and the rest is water. My guess is the ETDA (chelating agent) is to buffer the solution against metal ions. So if you use distilled water you could probably get away with straight sodium hydroxide. Red Devil Lye is an inexpensive source.

People in the US and (possibly) Canada are lucky because they can get these fine brews. Apparently transport regulations prohibit overseas shipping. I have been tearing my hair out trying to get hold of Edwal Ultra Black with no success whatsoever. Someone told me that the results from Dektol diluted 1:1 are indistinguishable from Edwal Ultra Black, so I guess that will have to do. Crying shame tho'
