The German made Edixa 35mm SLR of the 1960's came in two lens mounts on various models. The more common is 42mm Pentax/Praktica universal screw mount. The other used a bayonet lens mount.

Does someone know if the bayonet mount is identical to Exakta/Exa? The Edixa shutter release is on the right hand rather than left as in Exakta, but for a pre-set lens it does not matter.

Thanks.

GMA,

I do not think the Edixa reflex cameras with focal plane shutters had ever used anything rather than the M42 mount; for that matter in the UK, the M42 mount was variously known as Praktica mount, Pentax mount or Edixa mount, depending on one's allegence of course.

It would be interesting to actually examine an Edixa actually fitted with a bayonet mount. But...

Although there is an "outrigger" mechanism on some lenses for the Edixa, it does not necessarily mean that it is a bayonet mount. Edixa put the release button at the front so that lenses do not need internal iris actuation, but can use the outrigger-type direct actuation as seen not just on cameras like the Exakta, but also Miranda, Topcon, Alpa, some lenses for the pre-IV series Praktica, and of course the Start.

Thanks, Seele, for the information. I am going to buy this lens and see what it is. I suspect that it is actually an Exakta mount rather than a bayonet Edixa. In searching the internet I ran across a picture of an Edixa SLR with Exakta mount front and the current owner questions the origin. He thinks it is a machinist's project camera, but it looks factory original.

The 300mm lens arrived today and it is Exakta bayonet mount as I suspected and it fits perfectly on my Exakta VX. The lens has the Exakta "outrigger" shutter release that also controls the automatic diaphragm. This does not answer the question about the possible existence of an Edixa bayonet mount camera, but the lens is exactly what I was hoping for.

By the way I found the picture of the Edixa with Exakta mount: www.geocities.com/Vienna/1244/ebayb4.html if anyone is interested.
