E-6 questions from previous post

I processed my first 2 rolls of slide film last night using the 3 step Arista rapid 16oz. kit in my patterson super system 4 developing tank. I figured $16.99 was worth the shot. I was right. One test roll of 120 and one 35mm E100vs and great results so far. Not as easy as B+W but doable.
My questions:
Once mixed how succeptable are the developers to daylight?

Anybody get more rolls out of it than the capacity states?

Is room temp okay for prewash and the middle washes?

How long is this stuff good for after it's mixed?

How long should the concentrates be good for once opened if kept in tightly capped bottles?

This kit doesn't say anthing about a "stabilizer", Is it already in the chemicals?

Is a separate stabilizer necessary for velvia,provia,velvia 100?

Can i dump any of this stuff down the drain?

I don't do E6 so expect the others to correct me-)

You don't want room temp for the prewash and likely not for the other washes. The prewash if you do it at the E6 temp will preheat everything. Tank. Film and reel. Can you do a prewash with E6? With the other steps a room temp wash will cool everything down again.

All right, I'll take a stab at it although I'm no expert either. I've never used the Arista kit, just the Tetenal, Afga, and Kodak kits:

Beats me. Probably about the same as most other chemicals. Store them in the dark to be safe.

Probably not a good idea, unless you're going to scan the slides right away and aren't worried about them deteriorating after a few years.

Based on the Tetenal instructions, a prewash is a bad idea. The wash after the first developer should be within one degree of 38C, and any other washes should be within four degrees of 38C.

How long is this stuff good for after it's mixed?

One to two weeks for the first developer. The other chemicals are longer.

Based on other posts I've read, maybe six months?

No idea. The Tetenal "3-bath" kit is actually three baths plus stabilizer (included as a separate liquid concentrate). I would have thought other three bath kits would also include it?

I don't think you need different stabilizers for different brands of film.

Can i dump any of this stuff down the drain?

Probably not the ideal solution, but I don't have a better one. Just run a lot of water after it to dilute the effluent.

Bill, I use a prewash all of the time, and my Jobo and Kodak manuals from years back recommend this even though it has changed. They use the prewash to bring the tank up to operating temperature, so they say to use 100 deg F.

Other than that, if your kit lacks so much information, the kit is not complete IMHO. Buy a better kit.

AFAIK, all E6 films require some sort of stabilzer to be applied to the film somehwhere in the process. You must have one for optimum dye stability.

I use the Tetenal kit, and I don't pre-wash. I pre-heat the developer tank though for at least 5 min before starting.

I have not tried to develop more than the recommended number of films, and I would not recommend it - you will prob lose the consistency.

I use tightly closed platic bottles for the mixed liquids, and I can remove the air from them when I close them. I had no problems when using them after 2 months after mixing them, but I really did not want to store them much longer.
