HI!

I've just bought a Durst 138 5 x 7 enlarger but do not have any lens panels. It came with a Durst 'Unipla' acceptor panel which looks like it would take a lens mounted on a disc of approx 80mm in diameter. I do not know what I am looking for on ebay. Is there a name for the type of disc that is accepted by this ' unipla' panel? If anyone knows the diameter of the small discs accepted by the unipla, this would help me get some made if e-bay does not turn any up. I have had to do this before but at least had one in my hand which the machinist could copy, then drill out the mounting hole to my diameter.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Hi Tom,

Congratulations on your purchase. I have three of these enlargers and I am sure that you will be happy with yours.

Durst makes two enlargers in that series...the 138 and the 138 S. The difference is the assist on the table with the 138S.

Durst has two turrets for these enlargers the Unipla (single lens) and the Tripla (triple lens). Each of these turrets takes different lens mounts which are specific for a given focal length and manufacture of lens. If you could provide me with the lens manufacturer and focal length of the lens(s) that you intend to use then I can give you the Latub designation(s) that you need for your enlarger (at least what Durst shows in their manual). I just looked in the manual and there are forty one different designations that are dependent on the turret, the negative size, the lens and the lens manufacturer. The Latub could probably be machined (no doubt) but the machining set up would probably be expensive since these are turned on a taper.

Message me if you want me to determine this for you. Good luck and enjoy.

Donald,

Thanks very much for your reply,

The lenses I intend to mount are 105 and 150 rodagons for now and a 180 or 210 later for 5 x 7. Can I not get machined a bevelled edge disc that fits in the unipla, with a threaded hole in the center to suit the lens ie 50mm x 0.75 for the 150 rodagon? I realise that some have a top hat design and this increases the distance between neg and film..cannot remember if this is for very small ir very large enlargements...but can I get away with a flat disc?

A local precision engineer quoted £50 for 3 flat threaded discs with no dimensions to work from. If I give him the circumference of the lens panel to go in the unipla at its widest point, it will be much cheaper.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I am sure that you can get this machined. I don't know about a flat dimension disc. My enlargers have the three lens turrets. With that design the disc has to be fairly thin at the edge and if that thickness was maintained throughout the dimension for the lens thread would be minimal. The other consideration is flex in the disc. That may lead to alignment problems at the lens stage. Good luck and enjoy.

Hello again,

Thanks to all who have helped. Does anyone know the diameter of the discs that insert into the unipla. I know they have the bevelled edge, so now all I need is their diameter at the widest point (sharp edge of the bevel) and the local machinist can get to work!!

What a useful place this forum is...any advice on how to convince my wife that I need a 5 x 7 camera?

Tks,

Tom

The diameter is 78mm, or 3 1/16".
The bevel starts at 70mm or 2 3/4".
The thickness is 6mm or 1/4".
The bevel stops at 2mm or a hint over 1/16".

This is measured off the Lapla 50, wihch holds my Rodagon 180mm to my Tripla triple turret.

If you're having one made for a 210mm Rodagon, I'd be very interested in getting one of these for myself... As well as one with a 29mm thread for the 60mm Componon
