My very first self-processed FP4 roll is hanging in my bathroom right now! Needless to say, I am *very* excited, and can't wait to scan it.

Now, how much time does it need to dry out completely? I have used a small hair dryer from 3-4' away, let it hang there for about 30 minutes and now it looks dry. Do I have to leave it there for a while or can I safely take it in my hands? None of the documentation I have explains the drying part thoroughly.

I'll wait for the first reply before doing anything stupid.

Promised.

Unless no one answers in the next hour :D

I'd wait an hour or two ... drying is dependet on ambient humidity and temperature - like clothes. Generally, if it looks dry, it is... but, even if it is dry, I would avoid touching the "dull" side of the film, or even the shiny side. Try to handle the film sparingly, and only by the edges.

five minutes with a hair dryer at about 6" to9" should be sufficient to dry the film.
a good test is to run the clear portion of the film between thumb and forefinger, if the finger runs smoothly the film is dry, happy scanning :D

Thanks for the fast replies guys! I just cut the first 6 frames out and let the other ones dry a little more. My scanner is working on it, and I will post a link (for anyone who cares) once it's up on my site.

Man that feels awesome

I've never tried it, but it seems like using a hair dryer is asking for dust particles on your film (to me anyways).

Straight out of the Minolta Scan Dual III, scanned as color negatives : Dead Link Removed

The brick wall had a slight water mark on it, but there aren't much problems on the rest of the film as far as I can tell. Grain seems reasonable and not worse than commercially developed FP4s I have scanned in the past.

I'm thrilled.

BTW, I feel the need to say that those were all shot in a 1 hour time lapse yesterday, to be used on my first test roll. I bracketed all shots +1/-1 and I fired away in continuous mode until it read 36 on the LCD, so there isn't much to look at... except that famous National Geographic photog who happened to be there commenting his photographs exposed on the Jardin du Luxembourg fence!
