i just downloaded Mac Lion this last weekend and thought I was getting into something great. What I found out is the following. I have a iMac with 8mg of Ram and 1T of hard drive. also has a intel i7 processor. So I'm pretty well set as far as computer. So I have my Nikon Coolscan 9000 attached, my Milteck 1000xl flat bed scanner attached, and my Epson 4880 hooked up. everything worked great. till I downloaded Lion. No one said anything about my scanners not working or that my printer won't work either. So I Got on silverfast which is the program I use for the 1000xl and they don't even have a upgrade to Lion yet. And my Nikon Program doesn't work at all. It seems all programs that use power Pc to run on a Mac will not work anymore! Silverfast wanted to charge me $410 to get the program for my Nikon and they would charge me for the upgrade on my 1000xl even though I just upgraded last Oct.
What I had to do was switch scanning programs to VueScan which had no problem with Lion or with any other Operating System or any scanner out there. I thought this was bull so I downloaded the Demo and it works great on both scanners and I can have them both on at the same time and switch back and forth without changing programs or shutting down and rebooting.! Next! Epson makes you remove the printer driver and then reinstall the same program and then your printer will work. Your best bet is to go to Epson.com and check out how your printer will be installed.
I'm very disappointed with Apple because I have never had to do this other than with Windows, and it seems Mr. Jobs is starting to take up the work of Window's headaches now.:wondering::blink:

Thanks for the warning.

I am having the opposite problem. I need to switch over to Snow Leopard in order to run the software I have purchased. I have the Snow Leopard disk, just need some help putting it on the computer. I hear that a "clean install" is the "best" route.

To be fair, the dropping of support for Rosetta (Power PC emulation) was announced well in advance, and there are several posts around that show you how to easily check whether any programs you've got installed are Power PC. Several 3rd party software vendors have been very slow in updating their software to universal or intel only binaries.

My Spyder 2 Pro won't support Lion, but I can either run it with some alternate software, or create a virtual machine running Snow Leopard and do the monitor profiling that way.

Folks had exactly the same issues going from XP to Vista due to the change in driver model.

It always pays to wait a while after upgrades like this, and to read the forums to gauge the likely side effects and gotchas.

2F/2F: if you are downgrading, you need to do a clean install, or install to another disk (you can choose which disk to boot from at startup). If upgrading, I've just done straight upgrades or archive and re-install. It always pays to run a permission check first, and make sure you're not running any "hacks".

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I have the stock version 10.4.11 at this time. The computer came with 512 MB RAM but I already changed that to 2 GB to better support the Snow Leopard OS. Just haven't got the time or the nerve to install the new OS yet. Really wish I had a bigger hard drive too, but oh well. Might as well just get a new computer if I am going to dump any more money into getting the old one up to speed.

Actually, there is an update on the Datacolor site, saying they WILL have a driver update for the SPyder 2 Pro that is compatible with Lion, sometime in September.

I bought a new Macbook Pro, my old one was dying, and it came with Lion. So far most things work just fine but today I had to buy a $180 (QB 2011) upgrade for my Quicks Books just because I could no longer write and email invoices from QB 2009. They are not supporting QB 2009 for Mac any longer.

Kirk, and all

Yes life is getting hard. My G4 died, not bad for a 10 year old. I was able to save most all of my stuff to a portable hard drive. The good thing is that I got a new old stock I Mac, the last of the Snow Leopards. I guy at the Comp Shop told me to down load Lion and not to install it yet. My printer will work and that's about it. It looks like new Photo shop time Too?????, I need to enroll at the CC to get a discount. Other than that all is fine. Sure has a lot more power than my G4 did.

I upgraded over the weekend. It's faster! I love it. PhotoShop had to upgrade some Java thing, which it did. So far I have been happily surprised...

I don't use Silverfast, or have some of the other issues....
