Oh dear... a few minutes ago I was ever so excited about finding and winning a cut film magazine (bag mag, I believe they're called), thinking that it'll save me so much hassle when I'm out with my camera, now I realise it won't fit my Speed Graphic's back.

Unless someone can give me a good workaround to allow me to use this, I guess it's likely to go right back on ebay again...

Your mistake is actually a good one. Now you have an excuse to buy a Graflex reflex camera to use the bag-mag.

Seriously, Graflex backs to fit a Speed do show up on eBay now and then. But if you swap one onto your Speed, you won't be able to use your other regular film holders. Anniversary Speeds show up now and then on eBay with Graflex backs too. You may not have to pay much for one, since most people think they must have a Graflock.

I've had about 10 of these bag mags over the years, and while handy, can't recommend them. Dust has been a perennial problem. I don't know if it's the leather decomposing or what, but I've tried shaking the bags, vacuuming the bags, but always with the dust!

The other thought I had was to make a box pinhole camera to fit the bag-mag and use it that way - will have a look and a think when it arrives. I'd rather not relist if I can use it. I've been meaning to build another pinhole camera for a while anyway...

Would you like a Graflex back for your Graphic? - I have several off of Pacemaker Speed and Crown 45's. The spring or Graflok back is held on by 5 or 6 screws and is interchangeable with the Graflex. As introduced, the Graflex back was available as an option.
Also, these came in both 12 and 18 ers. I have an 18 made by Graflex Inc so it is post 1946.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I read the post re the spare back from a crown, 6 screws etc and looked at mine, does that mean I can fit a rotating back from a speed graphic? I love the camera but as I shoot mainly upright landscapes I can't use the tilt for DOF which is just about all the movement I need!!
sorry again

Garri -- The front standard of a Crown Graphic can be modified to swing. Then you can do your verticals with tilt. To do this, the outside edges of the two pieces that clamp upwards onto the track are filed into a curve. The guides that slide along the outside of the track must be filed down. After this modification the front standard won't stay square on the track. The infinity stops can be used to square the standard, or lines can be scribed on the track.

Nope. If you can get it to bolt on, it'll vignette. Remember the shutter is only 4+ inches tall, not 5.
