I have a Rolleinar 2 set I've had for at least a decade, I think it dates from the 30's or 40's -- seems pretty old and the coatings are a bit mottled on the taking lens. Works pretty well for B&W but looking closely at color, it's evident that some chromatic distortion is introduced (absent without the Rolleinar). Does anyone know if there have been revisions or changes to the Rolleinar design? Besides being just newer, would a newer Rolleinar have a different optical design and characteristics?

Thanks

Yay!

Yay! I am an idiot!!

Talking to a friend I discovered to my astonishment that unlike my wide and tele adaptors the BIG rolleinar goes on the TOP (viewing) lens!!!! I've been using this doggoned thing for years and never even knew it. Big "doi!!!" for me, unnngh. So the chromatic aberation was likely from the prism.

Next I suppose someone will tell me how to use the self-timer.

Still, I'm wondering if there are any design differences wrt date on Rolleinars.

I have rollinars made in the 60's, 70's and 90's. They have one thing in common. The taking lenses are single element.

There's not much that can be improved from a single element lens except for multi-coating.
