I've heard that a red intensifier filter can help with camera scanning, but how does this actually work and is there a real improvement?

I don't know where that advice came from; green has always been the default for monochrome.

Edit: Actually, using a full color capture, but only work with the green channel as an output in Photoshop. I would be interested to hear why red filtration would work better either in color or monochrome.
