Hi

I have purchased a bargain Devere 504 bench enlarger via ebay inc 4 schneider lenses and a raft of other darkroom stuff, trays, clock and inc 70+ boxes of paper.

Firstly I will be picking it up this weekend and it will have to fit into my family car along with the family and the rest of the darkroom gear purchased.

As I have not got access to one can anybody advise as to what tools to take so that I can remove the baseboard and generally disemble the unit to assist packing.

Secondly has anyone got any words to say on this unit. Seems to be sturdy etc.

Just a set of allen keys and an adjustable spanner and one flat head screwdtiver and one philips.

Its about 50kg including the head. I have an instruction manual if you need any more info.

Oh yea, be careful you dont lose the lift pins which are located in the negative carrier area. Contact http://www.odyssey-sales.co.uk/ for parts/service/manuals etc. I've found them good but slow.

Thanks for your response. Would you elaborate on the pins. Are they loose?

Phill,

I also tried getting a 504 in my car (admittedly a very small citroen AX) it was a very tight squeeze! I think you may havre to dump the family!!

The problem is even when you remove the baseboard (which is very easy) there is a huge metal frame under it the same size as the baseboard itself which cant be removed from the column.

Good Luck!

Yes they are. They rest on cams that are attached to a lever for raising and lowering the negative stage. They simply lift out.

OK, I got the enlarger home in one piece and managed to retain the pins as discussed.

General condition is OK, transformer and timer work perfectly but the focus mechanism is a little notchy. I have cleaned the rails and re-lubed but the problem must be with the mechanism inside.

Any one had any experience with maintenance of the focussing system on one of these beasts? Any advice welcomed.
