I'm looking at buying this old, 6.5x12" plate camera with the intention of cobbling some sort of 5x12 spring back for it.
I have no experience with this type of back (the bookform back). Is it a reasonable thing to do, replacing the existing back with a spring one? The woodwork, and even the metalwork, aren't an issue. Design- and engineering-wise, though, is it possible?
The problem I see is finding the springs, the ground glass and woodwork is not a problem. If the back is glued on you could damage the camera. The only Design problem is you need a standard 5X12 film holder, and you just cut the light traps match the ones on the film holder.
