Recently I ran out of sodium sulphite and 'cleared' a few negatives in hot tap water. Now that I've received my order of sodium sulphite is it necessary to run those water 'cleared' negatives through a wash of sodium sulphite?

The negatives look fine but will they deteriorate without the sulphite bath?

Err on the safe side and clear them again in the sulphite bath to make sure that whatever the hot water wasn't able to take out is removed. Some of the residuals which remain in the emulsion are quite invisible and may manifest only when these have started to destory the negative.

I would definitely run them through the usual strength sodium sulfite bath for T55 because you may very well still have residual developing agents on or in the emulsion. I totally agree with the above poster...better safe than sorry!
