Could those who have used this film provide some feedback on its quality? Just curious, the price is certainly affordable. I mainly use Extol to develop my film so any info. on development times would also be helpful- If of course it's worth the jump.

Thanks,
Greg

Thanks guys. I think maybe I can work thru the handling issues, specially on my budget. I have more time than money . I will purchase a few rolls and give it a whirl. Thanks again for the informative responses. I'm glad I'm not the only one with issues with tonality with tri-x. Thought it was just me.....

I've posted some test shots from the 120 in this thread:

http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=008niK

and you can find some from 5x7" in my APUG gallery:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

A beautiful film, but indeed, requires careful handling. I only find that a real problem, though, with tray processing of sheet film.

Give the film a 2 min. presoak before developing to remove the blue/green dye.

I'm not sure what your point is about Tri-X. I would say that Classic 400 is actually quite similar in some ways to TXT 320--the old Tri-X sheet film. If you don't like TXP, you might not like Classic 400.

Tried to order some 8x10 on monday and J&C was out of stock. Not sure when the next shipment will arrive. Maybe John can let us know?

They still had stock in 4x5.

Yeah, I have some 4x5 400 on the way (as well as 8x10 200), but would also like to get some 8x10 400 and 4x5 200...

(this is my first order of it, and I'm really looking forward to working with it)

I only use two films in 8x10 size, Classic 400 being one of them (Efke PL100 the other). The extra speed makes for a great partner with Efke, my primary choice. I have also just discovered that it has very pleasant reciprocity characteristics. I have tried Classic 200 and I personally would not bother with it - you get absolutely nothing advantageous except a measly extra stop in speed, if that. Efke is so superior in every department to Classic 200 that I have cast that film aside in favour of Classic 400.

I wish I could tell you when the next shipment will be here. The date has been pushed back a couple of times by the factory. We received shipments twice last month and they went in no time. We have ordered much larger quantities this time around.

We will be at Photokina next week and will meet with the factory people. Hopefully I will have a more concrete answer then.
