I came home about an hour ago to a wonderful package from the postal service.

my very own 8x10 camera for about $100 on ebay.
I dont have a clue what make it is etc....
its old, wooden, could use a new bellows, and some careful tender loving care. but its mine. yay.

now I just need to order a box of 8x10 film some film holders and get one of my wollensak lenses mounted.

so incredibly excited.

Boy that thing looks so much like Kayakerguys B&J 5x7. Let us know what you learn about it.

Matt, looks like contact printing is beckoning. Very addicting stuff indeed. Welcome to more fun.

yes I cant wait francesco.
bmac. I think you might be correct. does look identical to that.
I have a couple questions someone may be able to help on.
1. where is somewhere I might be able to get a knob replaced. the locking knob on the front rise is intact but the knob that moves it up and down is missing so moving the front standard rise/fall is almost impossible.
2. is there any manner to replace the bellows that wont cost me dearly?

thanks in advance. Im anxious to make my first 8x10 negative and my first contact print. so excited I cant explain it.

Im horrible bumping this thread but merely for myself.
such a wonderful day today. I shot my first 8x10 negatives. No light leaks in the 1910 Empire state. No light leaks in the early 1900s wooden filmholders. And I even managed to get solid exposure with my 8 second lenscap over barrel mounted lens method.
it was quite exhilirating seeing an 8x10 negative as I rinsed them. stunning detail.

Ill make some contact prints and post them tonite. So exciting.

awesome man. Nothing quite like seeing your first 8x10 negative.

So true! And if you ever shoot an 8x10 slide, then the feeling is just as 'awesome'. I took an 8x10 slide that I shot to work last week and put it on a overhead projector just so I could see it projected. The lights were on, but the other people in the same meeting as me were impressed.
