I have a super-angulon 5,6/58mm XL. I need to purchase a center filter. Schneider recommends/sells a 3x/IIIb (or #3b depending upon where you look) the filter requires 1.5 stops of compensation.

I was wondering if there are options or am i obliged to buy a Schneider?

thanks

Hoya and Heliopan also make filters that would work. The hoya is about 2/3 the price at B&H. The heliopan is about the same price as the Schneider. I've never heard of any complaints about the Hoya.

Yep, I went through the same dilemma and have just got a second hand Heliopan. My initial tests appear to show that it does its job. I suppose the crunch will come when I put some 4x5 trannies on the light box.
