so, i'm now shooting with a mamiya m645 w/ 80mm lens. the backpack that i was carrying my 35mm equipment with doesn't really work for the 645. is there a good option for the m645, one more lens, and a tripod? everything that i can find is really designed for 35mm slr shaped cameras.

thanks

My carry option is a 4"bbl. Colt .45acp in a cross draw holster, with a pair of spare mags. and 180gr hydra-shocks.

I'd suggest Dead Link Removedbags. Super quality and designed by photographers.

Good old LowePro also still offers a range that holds something for everyone.

Does anyone know where one might buy the padded dividers with the velcro strips on them used in camera bags and packs? I made dividers out of foam to fit my RB67 plus accessories in a small backpack, but it would work a lot better with the cloth-covered padded dividers.

When I travel, I bring a Tenba backpack that is useful for carrying my laptop as well as a complete 645 or rb67 setup. And a couple of books to read on the plane, as well as my passport and travel documents. Nice pack but maybe overkill for local travel. It will actually hold just about everything I need for my Deardorff 8x10!

I have Lowepro Trim Trekker, which I have used to carry a Rolleiflex SL66, three lenses, two backs and film.

It's a shoulder bag, but it has a backpack harness and waist belt. Excellent bag. It's a top loader. I like top loaders and despise front loaders. Well, despise is a bit strong. Loathe is better.

I don't think it's still in production, but it's an excellent bag for medium format.

Thanks Jason, that looks like the right stuff. Wish it were a little cheaper though!

Speaking about Kata: if you ever feel the need for some extra support in your gentleman's nether regions, or find your thermal underwear isn't up to the job, have a look at this Kata product.
Make sure to select Option/View 3 to see what ingeniuous solution they came up with.

If you know someone with a sewing machine see if they would make some for you, it's just a piece of foam inserted into a fabric tube with Velcro on the ends.
Everything should be available at a craft store.

I just went to Walmart, picked up some foam rubber, cloth, and a hot glue gun and made an insert that would fit my backpack. Work pretty good for my RZ67.

keh has the tamrac 3380 aero for $69.95. I put a Pentax 67 with three lenses plus, in the top compartment, an extra lens, lightmeter, prism, extension tubes, small stuff and sometimes even a YashicaMat. It all fits inside this rugged and low key black lightweight backpack. It just looks like an ordinary back pack. Oh, and it has a laptop compartment as well.

Good idea! I thought of covering the foam with cloth, but the sewing turned me off. Using glue never occurred to me.

Choose your glue carefully though.
Many foams do not like the solvents used in glues, and 'melt'. And many glues go hard when they go off.

so does anyone know why camera bags are so freaking expensive?

Well, I guess the marketing/business response would be something like:

"You're not just buying a camera bag, you're buying the ability to comfortably, conveniently, safely, stylishly, carry your fancy (and often valuable) gear with you."

Mind you, I REALLY wish they would drop the prices by about, um, half?

The one I recommended is $70. Sure, its a lot of money, but very good value compared to many other things

Check out the Tamrac 650 and 652 back packs. They are well designed and have a strap that transfers the weight to the hips.
