This is an update on San Francisco, the first book in the series, The Portfolios of Brett Weston and an announcemnt of "White Sands" the second book in the series.
I do hope this announcement does not cause the kind of discussion that ensued the last time I made an announcement about this series.
After much thought we printed a "Second Printing" of the hardcover editiopn of the book. It is limited to 150 copies. On the colophone page is printed: "Second Printing limited to 150 numbered copies. There will not be a third printing.
Each book in this 19-volume series will have a second prinitng of 150 hardbound copies. This second printing is availaible to subscribers only.
I hope this allays the fears and concerns of those who thought Paula abd I would do anything illegal or unethical or dilute the investment value of the first printing of 100-hardbound copies and 1,000 softbound copies.
The second book in the series, "White Sands" is now at the bindery. While "San Franciso" is one of the smallest books in the series (number of pages, not format), "White Sands" is one of the largest. All of the text, including a wonderful essay about Brett by Nancy Newhall, has been reprinted in facsimile. There are 15 reprductions--10 from Weston's first White Sands Portfolio, 4 from his second (the second included 8 photographs from the first White Sands portfolio plus 4 others), plus a bonus--a print that Brett referred to in a letter as "Edward's favorite." This print was not included in either portfolio and I believe it has never been reproduced elsewhere. The letter where Brett mentions this print is also included. It, too, is reproduced in facsimile. And there is an Afterword by the Art Historian Roger Aikin.
