There was one of those a few months ago on ebay. The guy wrote something like "I'm not sure if this paper is still good... but I've heard when it was produced it was some of the best." His pictures showed the paper hanging out of the bag. Wow.

There was one like this on a local auction site recently, several Agfa boxes, all opened, all with the paper displayed..... the seller was one of the few genuine "I dont know much about photography" ones.

I saw one several months ago where someone kindly emailed the seller to tell them that they had ruined the paper by taking a photo of it and instead of just removing the auction the guy wrote something along the lines of "I am an idiot, I have ruined this paper, don't bid."

Someone then went and bid on it.

Here's a translated version (hope the link works). Note that "The salesman terminated this auction prematurely, since the article was destroyed and therefore no more not be sold can."

That translator thingy is better than the comedy network - there is a French site that offers an English version at the click of a button (it had a nice description of a camera i wanted to buy). I clicked, and voila (the extent of my French ) - every time the word Canon appeared in the French text, the English version said "GUN".
Those Germans - they can put a man on the moon (an American, no less!), and so silly with photo paper. I am guessing his resume for a job with Leica is now in serious jeopardy.

I don't think this is so funny, it's only a sad sign of our times. The guy (seller) only thought that Photo paper is the same as inkjet (photo) paper. The inkjet one doesn't get fogged when you open the package, so he didn't know there are other ones that suffer from exposure to light. That's all there is to it, on my opinion...

Another example: ask a young person who has only driven cars with catalysts fitted, and he / she won't be aware of the possibility to start a car (if it has no catalyst) by pushing it to a downslope. This information is just missing fro their brain...

well that explains how they might have done that, I couldn't think of a reason myself.

A catalyst as in part of the exhaust system? That won't stop you push starting a car, but the all too common automatic transmission will!

I've got probably 60 sheets of 4x5 undeveloped bracket exposures I was going to put up for sale here on 4/1/05. The pitch was going to include a shot of the sheets fanned out on a table:

"I've gone the extra mile to actually SHOW you what you're getting!"

The guy I was gonna borrow the digicam from was out of town, though.

I thought, "Geez, a 1 Euro starting price...how come nobody's bidding???"

Then I looked at the picture...LMAO...

Then I went to refill my coffee in the kitchen...LMAO...

Spilled the milk on my hand, because...you guessed it...I was LMAO...

Cleaned up milk. Couldn't drink coffee, because...you guessed it...

I can only type this because I statrted to actually feel sorry for the guy. I know how I feel when I waste $50+ of anything by doing something that my ignorance couldn't prevent...

LOL

Nige - bump starting a car blows the Cat Converter, tha'ts why people are taught not to do it anymore (dont ask me how it does ... but it does aparently!)

I'm not sure what's worse about this ebay item ... the seller taking the stuff out of the pack, or me looking at it and wondering what the hell was the problem .. then reading down teh thread and seeing what people had said ... DOH - how could I have missed that!!! :surprised:

I doubt that,
Cat converters are killed by sulfur and other metals/nonmetals... but start the car by pushing shouldn't do it. Me guesses it has to do more with all the electronics that are found inside engines these days....
I learned the hard way (by helping a friend in dire need) that you can;t just change the battery of the car anymore, have to take it to the dealer! They have to "reset" the onboard computer, otherwise power windows and central lock stopped working :ROFL"

titrisol - I just found this from a uk garage website

If you attempt to bump start a car (with a run down battery) this has the same effect as a misfire. Unburnt fuel travels into the CAT and destroys the catalyst.

It says pretty much the same in my car manufacturers manual too.

whoops - wandered off topic a bit here.

Kind of reminds a story I was told by a USGS photographer. He took some film into a place in Tucson(very well known and I use them myself) He handed his box of 4x5 color negs he took on a once in a lifetime survey of the Grand canyon after the controlled flood, over to the guy and they were filling out the order form. And it was super busy with a small staff. The guy behind the counter asked him how many sheets. The photog did not remember so being the smart ass he is said "better open it and count them." Without thinking the guy did, in the bright sun lit lobby.
