Kerik Kouklis posted on his FB page that Bill Schwab passed away suddenly, due to a heart attack, whilst leading a tour in Scotland. I always enjoyed his Alt. photo videos... Sad news.

This is tragic, his videos were amazing, inspiring and so instructive. His passing leaves a huge void in the alt photo world. His work got me interested and (somewhat) skilled in a variety of processes. He will be missed.

I just went to YT and watched one of his videos on Salted Printing. What a strange feeling knowing he won't be making more of this stuff. Excellent quality. Hopefully his channel will remain.

How unfortunate.

Many of us in this discipline are of an age where there will be more and more such notices.

I guess the last one out, turns on the lights.

RIP Mr. Schwab.

Just heartbreaking news. I took two workshops with him and they were by far the best I will ever have, such wonderful memories with an amazing figure in the world of photography.

I am so sorry to read this news. Bill was a very real human being whom I was fortunate to know a little bit over the years. He cared deeply about his family, always proud of them, especially his son. He was also incredibly generous and selfless with his friends and community members, and built a real cornerstone of the photography community through his photography trips, the photostock events, but also erecting an entire building for the purpose of furthering the art of photography through workshops, and then there's his online presence of course with his instructional videos. Do not forget to have a look at his art as well, achingly beautiful work. Few people make such a mark on the world around them as Bill, we truly lost one of the great ones. I very much wish his family and friends peace and grace in difficult times, and for Bill to rest in peace. You will forever be in our hearts.

This is not the kind of news you want to wake up to, what a shock. My thoughts are with Bill's family and friends. A loss on so many levels. Bill's drive to produce incredible work and share his knowledge through socials, workshops and festivals always blew me away.

I saw this news last night and was in total disbelief. Bill was one of the good ones, and leaves huge shoes to fill. He was generous, warm and loved bringing people together through Photography. My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Perhaps the building could be turned into a retreat for analog photographers.
His wife may have other plans and want to sell the property but it's just a thought I had

I'm so saddened to read this. Aside from his newsletter and YouTube channel, my only interaction with Mr. Schwab was through Photostock discussions - I couldn't go, but I have the sticker in my darkroom - and a small photo book I received as part of the kickstarter to build the darkroom and workshops. When the book didn't arrive, he sent out another and included a handwritten card, both of which are on display on a shelf beside me as I type.
In even that small interaction, his kindness, warmth and generosity shone through. All the videos I've seen over the years of Bill with his photo friends, making alternative prints, trying new processes, photographing one another... all showed a truly lovely human being.
My heart goes out to his family and friends for such a loss. I hope they and you reading this know just how admired Bill was and how much richer he made the world with his curiosity, generosity, artistry and kindness.
Vale, Mr. Schwab, you will be missed.
