Does this product really prevent newton rings?
In have no personal experience with this (although I do have the betterscanning AN glass at home) but I'd suggest they wouldn't make this glass if it didn't do its job. Maybe others could share their experience ...
And also can I just use the glass on top of film by itself? I don't need to buy their holder too do i?
Assuming you have a flat bed scanner: If you have a means to hold the film straight and level at the proper distance from the scanner glass surface you should be fine. Yet the betterscanning film holder may just be the perfect tool for this :D. 35mm and 120 film are not meant to sit directly on the scanner glass surface during scanning. Which scanner do you have?

I only have the Betterscanning ANR glass for 35mm.It fits in the supplied 35mm plastic film holder,ie the film is IIRC about 3mm above the glass. After processing I place the film in the holder and the ANR glass on top.Generally this is not heavy enough to flatten the curl across the width so I jam the ANR glass down with pieces of card between the edges of the glass and the short vertical posts in the holder. Newtons rings do not occur. This is for a V700.
