Bergger Prestige Paper

I'm thinking of trying Beggger Prestige 100% hot pressed cottn paper, which is supposed to give similar results to Platinum prints. While I don't think this can be very true, I would be interested in anyon'e experience of using it, as it is very expensive just to try for the sake of it without the benefit of others' experience.

I have used it, and it's great for some subjects! As to "similar to platinum prints" I don't know, but for the right subject there is nothing better.

Used it once to print portraits shot on 4x5 with an Imagon lens. It suited the subject and I was satisfied. I wouldn't say that I'd like to see sharp landscapes on that paper, though...

Platinum has a different look, although the surface of the Bergger paper might assimilate the kind of papers used for pt-printing.

Is the negative sharp, or is the print sharp as well ?

Are you sure we're talking about the same paper ? Bergger Silver Supreme 100% cotton etc etc ? It seems strange to me that we have such different views, maybe it's the difference in the light, between Norway and Greece... Was it during the winter that you looked at your print, finding it sharp ?

I'm just joking, Ole. Hope you won't be mad at me and come to Greece with your Viking axe to hunt me down and kill me.

We're talking about the same paper - the silver-coated COT320 cotton rag which costs twice as much as any other paper. The negative was sharp - as most of my 5x7" negatives are - and the print was sharp as well.

You might be right about the difference in the light playing a part - not in print assessment, but in scenery and light effects in landscapes. Most of mine heve extremely high contrast and large areas of very deep shadows. The added texture to the deep shadows makes the Prestige Silver Supreme (I've used 3 packs of this paper, they have all had slightly different names!) very attractive to me.

I found that portraits are quite beutiful on this paper. Have not tried it for landscapes.

I've just rec'd a print from Ole on the Beggger Prestige and I can vouch for his thoughts about it. Ole's print is quite unique and absolutely beautiful. He was a little rushed and didn't supply tech details, and my first question for him was what alternative process he had used!

Neville, if you are in Auck, we could meet for a coffee and you can view it in person. (I suspect you'd take up Ole on his kind offer afterwards!)
