I just aquired a Certo Certoruf (1924-1929) 9x12 camera in good condition, but I only have the focusing/ground glass back, no film- nor film plate holders.

I have a suspicion that several German holders from the periode will fit.

Any suggestions om backs, holders, inserts, sheaths or whatever that will fit?

My ambition is to try this camera out with film sheets.

Moved to the Plate Cameras sub-forum, because people who hang around there are most likely to be able to help.

There's a sticky thread for this forum with information about 9x12 plate holders. Any of them made for glass plates can be used with modern 9x12 sheet film by putting a film sheath in place of the plate. Both specific plate holders and film sheaths are harder to find than they were a few years ago, but they're still out there.

Its not a camera of the 'big' German houses; therefore you might better measure the holder with the frosted viewing glass - with these measures it would be easier to find a matching plateholder.

Other way to find out is to look for a catalogue, if any, with Certo stuff....

I own another model Certo 9x12cm that usees the most common plate-holder design, the so-called 'Normalfalz' with just one lip on all 3 closed edges.
Off hand your specimen seems to use the same type.
Should be easy to find a rollholder (120 for 8 x 6by9cm) on ebay (germany), I dont know about single plate/cutfilm holders, as I've hever had to procure these on the bay.
My take is they make nice stuff at Certo.

I found some "standard" plate holders that did not fit.

I measured the ground glass back again.

The Certo needs holders/backs with inner flanges/lips approx. 2mm on the long sides. See pic.

Sorry for late response (busy old man!). But the 9.9 cm is the exact same width as my standard (Normalfalz) 9x12 cm cut-film and roll-film holder. Ought to be relatively easy to find, but can designate no source at present, sorry. Be aware they come with both one and two (parallel) lips, most likely both should do on your Certo. Happy chase! (Note: The Goerz-holders do not fit.)

For clearness sake: are it the outer ends of the 9,9cm side which slide into the slots of the camera?
btw is this back original to the Certo camera?

As for first part of your question I think you may learn it from carefully studying the drawing.

Yes, the 9.9cm slides into the slot om the camera body. And yes the pics and drawing are from the original ground glass/focusing back.

The issue is Certo [late holders are longer than most.

I may have some plate holders, but it will be probably tomorrow afternoon before I'll get a chance to look.
