"Sour godliness is the devil's religion"
- the Wicked Flea

To me, this case illustrates one thing - the obsession - to the point of psychosis - that some of the "establishment" has with sex. This happens to be a negative obsession, but no less damaging than than any sexual obsession with the same intensity.

I've heard it all before - "zero tolerance" - when what is really meant is "zero intelligence".

I read somewhere once that "religion is the root of all evil".

The longer I live, the more I wonder.

I think that we need to hire more police, build more jails, elect more judges to create more situations like this...What a sad commentary on our society.

I'm reminded of the time when the City of Tampa assigned thirty (30) of their finest - Patrolmen to cover the beaches because, - gasp!! - there were girls there running around TOPLESS!! People being mudered on the streets, and the Keystone Kops, Beach Division, was alive and well.

The girls merely wore T-Shirts - so they conformed to the law. No practical difference after they become wet (I wonder if this was the star of ...), but everything was legal.

Net result of all that? The "Topless" Clubs - some really rough places - went out of business left and right. Why pay exhorbitant prices for a beer when the beach was free ....?

Tampa was a safer place.

Then you've got the story of a local photographer that got stopped by customs. Why? Well the new mother had baby photos! The nerve naked baby on bear skin rug. I still think the only reason she got her stuff back was related to the fact she was a pro. The average new mother would have lost thier stuff.

OTOH during the last year both Project P [A local police taskforce] and the chief have mentioned how digital has made child porn so much harder to track down.

At times it's clear they go too far at others it seems they aren't doing enough-((

The Austrailians got lucky: they got the convicts while we got the puritans.

I have a recurring argument with a friend over the true level of freedom available in this great country of ours. I say many "over-regulated socialist" countries offer greater practical freedoms as officials there are invested with greater leeway in enforcing those regulations. Here, in the US, we're too egalitarian and litigious to allow enforcement of regulations to be tempered by common sense and good judgment.

Well, thanks for ruining a perfectly good day. I kept reading and kept thinking, "You have got to be kidding."

Sadly, these aren't the only people who have had this happen to them. Something is WAY out of control here. I know that we feel an obligation to protect children but this isn't protection, this is harmful to all involved.

You would think they would censor all the R rated, soft porn flicks on the boob tube then to arrest mother boob suckeling her infant. What about all the topless female toddlers at the beach? Isn't Texas Bush country? Maybe the justice dept owns stock in J&J. Wouldn't want to hurt the stock by allowing good down home breast feeding in their jurisdiction. Are their any diaper commercials aired in Texas?

What a friggin mess. I don't get it, but then when I see naked children I don't think of sex. The pervs that made these accusations need to be analyzed.

Gee. Aren't there enough murderers, rapists, gangsters and terrorists out there to keep the police busy? Or are those people too scary and dangerous for them to go after??? * very heavy sarcasm *

Simply- or maybe not so - this is something to take action against rather than just bitch and complain against. If you are truly outraged ( which I for one am ) then boycott the store - send then e-mails ( Dead Link Removed ) or letters stating your concerns.Helpto change their policy. Talking back and forth here to each other does nothing -take a "real" stand against this !

I think you are aiming at the wrong people. The Eckerd clerks did nothing but report something they have been told to report, it is up to the police and the DA to follow up. As we can see "common sense" is not as common as we would like to believe. Any reasonable adult can tell the difference between child porn and family pictures, but in their righteousness and holier than thou attitude these people decided to screw the lives of poor immigrants to appear on the news papers. If you are really outraged write to the DA and the police department who did this, not the company who is only guilty of covering their ass.....

I guess that after the Michael Jackson and Jon Bennet Ramsey cases the police learned it does not pay to try and prosecute rich people. Or maybe I should say it pays but to the wrong people.......

I usually say that we (America) got settled by the rejects of Europe.

BTW, the Julius Cesar quote is actually Shakespeare (Not that it makes it any less meaningful.)

What the present administration has done to this country since 9-11 is so wrong and blatantly unconstitutional is sickening. I think the terrorist won.

I'll get down from my soap box now. (Don't get me started!)

I"ve been saying just that ever since ...
Just don't get me started, either.

I think every artist is a commentator on the society "soup" they inhabit ... and the way it is presented. Dr. Bergen Evans - had a radio program called "All About Words" ... once said that a prime "mission" of art was to "Rescue the individual from the bonds of society ... providing a safety valve of truth, preventing the formation of a mindless sheep-like mass, open to the worst forms of tyranny."

But .... we are apt to get our fingers broken here. Maybe continue our own "safety-valving" on the "Totally Off Topic" forum ... although I don't really think it belongs there.

Yes they have a LOT to answer for in so many ways. There are hundreds of kids in California that have been "misplaced". Social Services has no idea where they are, or if they are even alive. Just this morning I heard this next bit on the local news radio station. A baby was taken out of foster care and returned to the "natural" parents. Police found the corpse in a duffel bag, in the trunk of the father's car. So much for the child's "welfare".

a little late with the reply....but consider the lab tech's position....I worked my 3 years now in an one hour lab.....once I saw some photos that came in from one of our best customers and all of a sudden after the disney pictures there was daddy bending over little jimmy(name changed). After that I've been a LOT more cautious about what i let through my lab.
