Arista Premium 400 looks promising

Also... Arista Premium 400 is actually rebadged Kodak Tri-X so that is also an added bonus. Great looking negs. Should make some great prints.

Thanks, guys. Yes, I read that the Arista = Tri-X. I surely believe it now. Looks like a good tone spectrum with the Tmax. I am still going to check out some D-76 ...

Has anyone else had this problems with Arista Premium 400? I shot half a roll in a Nikon, cut the film off in the darkroom, developed it. There was a scratch line that ran the entire length of the processed film. I examined the Nikon, no issues that I could see, but just to eliminate that variable I used a different camera for the second half of the roll. Same scratch, same place -- must have been on the film before I got it. (Yes, I checked the felt lips of the cartridge -- no detritus lurking.) This makes me leary of buying much more of the Arista, as I never had this problem with Tri-X as labeled by Kodak.

I am a film teacher, and during the last year, we ran several hundred rolls of the Arista Premium during the year---it is tri x; and has been a terrific bargain. I have not noticed any problems or scratches. I hope Freestyle continues with it as "their" Premium Arista. Lovely film in the 35mm. A few years back, they had some "Arista" dogs. Their Arista edu. Ultra is not Trix; not sure what it is, but it's awful.

BTW I like the edu ultra, as long as you realize it's about 2 stops slower than the package and easy to overdevelop.

Great work! Tri-X is quite a nice film and this is a great way to keep the cost down pretty low but still keep the quality very high.

I bought 5 rolls of 100 and 5 rolls of the 400 but haven't developed any of it yet also got a 100ft. roll of the Legacy Pro 100 but haven't loaded any of it yet. Hope for good results from both.

Confirmed. In terms of technical image quality/dollar it has to be the best deal on the planet. I like Acros better than TMX, at least in 35mm.

Which Arista film is Neopan 400 in 35mm?

I've had great luck pushing that film to 800 for street photography.

for a while the factories were closing faster than Freestyle could get the suff adverised.

Note that the Legacy Pro is on at a great price in 20 roll packs, but is short dated at the moment. I just got a bunch of the 400 and it is dated 3/2011 I now have bought three batches all with em 271 or 272 but dated anywhere from Jan to March 2011

So, 100 should be shot at 25 or?

Actually no. Arista.EDU Ultra 100 is the best of the bunch in that brand. It is, as previously mentioned, Foma 100 and comes in very close to box speed in D-76 or XTOL. Give it an extra 1/3 to 1/2 stop exposure if you like using Rodinal. Very nice film, and very inexpensive. Has a unique look, not at all like Legacy pro 100 (Fuji ACROS) or Arista Premium 100 (Kodak Plus-X). Arista.EDU Ultra 200, no longer available, was the dog of the bunch. No matter what I did, I couldn't get a decent negative from it. At best, rate it at about 125 and be very gentle with the development. Arista.EDU Ultra 400 isn't terrible, but not great. Rate it at 250 in hard light, and again, go gentle on the development or your highlights will be a real bitch to print. In soft light, rate it at 320 and go a little harder on the development for a punchy negative that prints well. Both Arista.EDU Ultra 100 and 400 are more grainy than first tier films from Kodak, Ilford, and Fuji, so be prepared for that.
