has anything changed with the film itself,,, with the new box art change?

Ive only used two of the new box art rolls and they dont behave like the previous box art..

used one old roll up, about a year old, in my 3800n and it went through fine.. tried a new roll of arista film with new box art, and after a dozen shots it stopped advancing in the camera and was a miserable shit to get out.

in same camera bulk Delta 400 goes through like warm bacon grease through an incontinent beagle,,,, same roll of delta 400 goes through my canon ftb the same way..

I can't tell you, but I just ordered five rolls of fancy new boxed Arista 100 in 120 and I sure hope it's still the same as Foma 100.

Foma also changed their boxes. My guess (only a guess as I have not got any new stock), is that the new box is because the plastic film canisters have changed and don't fit in the old box. I saw them on the shelf at the local photo shop and the box looks bigger sitting next to the older stock. I would doubt it indicates anything about the film.

might want to e-mail freestyle. they will not be able to tell you who makes it, but they should be able to tell you if it is different.

My film is in the mail, so I guess I'll just develop it as usual and see. I'm pretty sure it's just the packaging that's changed.

Well, Freestyle is still using the same PDFs with precisely the same developing times that they always have with this film and it still says Made In The Czech Republic so unless Freestyle has committed an exceptional oversight in not updating documentation, I would think it's the same film just with an eco-friendly looking new packaging.

I can provide an example of an "exceptional oversight in not updating documentation" committed by Freestyle.

Go to <this link> which is the to the PDF Instructions for LegacyPro EcoPro developer as it appears on Freestyle's website. Look down at the bottom of that PDF and you will see "FS distribution" and below that "www.kentmereusa.com"

I believe between the relationship between Freestyle and Kentmere dates back to before the time when Harman bought Kentmere (2007), so that PDF seems to be quite out of date. Today, when I click on the "www.kentmereusa.com" link shown in that PDF, I get an error "...Safari can't find the server..." But as recently as July of 2022, clicking on that link took me to a hard core pornography site.

That's a tad more colourful than anything I've ever come across! 😁
My comment was almost certainly coloured by a really poor website I've dealt with in the past locally. Just impossible to navigate and documentation was non-existent. The few items that had links to product usage, always linked to another website that went offline years before. By comparison, Freestyle is world class.
Speaking of, while it will automatically ré-direct, Freestyle's new site went live this morning at https://www.freestylephoto.com (it was .biz previously).

It just stopped working.. it actually got my poor little film advance lever to just swing helplessly back and forth.

once i popped the film door, got the arista out, and did about 10 practice shots,, the film advance lever went back to normal.

Sounds like there is a mechanical issue with your camera that you may need to have repaired. That has the appearance of a tooth or two stripped off of a plastic gear. What camera are you using?

I'm not sure if it's useful information, but I just received a few rolls of 120 Arista Edu Ultra 100 from Freestyle, still in the old boxes, dated 01/2025. I love this film. I hope they don't change a thing.

In past, even when they changed the support for 120 films, the emulsion stayed the same or at least behaves identically. The only film that they’ve changed much, in the last 20 years since I’ve been shooting it at least, is 200 which they had to remove something from due to EU legislation. It was off the market for a bit and then back eventually.

Im not so happy with Foma anymore.

Xtol and Eco Pro can make GREAT images... but i have had some pissed off images with it.

1. it really seems to show blur in strange ways..

2. on 135 and 120, the coating isnt great.
Seriously, on my roll of 120,,, the ARISTA film data is perfectly located on the film. In a manner that is identical with a ruler along its whole length.. But the actual IMAGE COATING and actual image wander the width of the negative.
one frame will have the Arista film data 1mm INSIDE the frame.... the next one will have the edge information outside of the frame

3. the film coating is WAVY.. its like they used 3 paint brushes, and is like this

://artisticpov.jessemaccabe.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/brushStrokes_002.jpg

the delta 400 ive developed, some frames seem slanted on the edge, but the edges look like they were drawn with a ruler... PERFECT.
