Hi All,

Looks like we should be able to get this upgrade going tonight at midnight. I will probably password lock the entire apug.org domain while we do this. You'll end up with a password box and will be unable to access the site. The site may be locked for up to 2hrs, hopefully much less. Fingers crossed we'll get this out of the way finally.

Thanks,
Sean

Good luck tonight. Hope it gives us faster times and "kills off" a few bugs.

Speaking of bugs, there seems to be a problem on the Sponsors page.

Mine was one of the "lost subscriptions" to Emulsion Magazine (their problem - not APUG's). After confirming this with Aggie I just tried to re-subscribe via the Sponsor page here. However, none of the link icons show up for any sponsors so I couldn't get to their site via here. Thought you might want to know - perhaps upgrade will also solve this?

(Oh, I did my subscription via Emulsion site directly)

Are you running any ad blocking software or plugins? If so you may have trouble with the sponsors page, etc

Have to look into that. I don't usually go to the link from my home site (tighter than at work!) so yes, I may have an ad blocker at play.

Sorry for the distraction - but would rather keep my "blocker" on - if you know what I mean!

most blockers have an allow list, so you can set it to allow ads from apug.org

As a veteran of a number of application upgrade/migrations, I know what you are going through. After you are satisfied that you have tested the daylights out of it, it's still fingers and toes crossed every time.

Good luck - hope it goes smoothly.

Yes, that is what I do. I want APUG ad, because I always choose to support APUG every way I can, so I prefer to purchase from APUG advertisors. BTW, any chance of getting Calumet as a sponsor?

ok things aren't looking good. coder has run into problems with the new navigation system and doesn't want to upgrade until it's sorted out. I think i'll just stop announcing we're going to upgrade and do it when it's ready. Pretty angry at the moment grrrrr...

Dear Sean,

Sympathies!

And a small request: could you possibly add a GMT estimate and date?

Working out 'midnight tonight' from your post took more mental arithmetic than I could manage just after getting up. What does the site run on? NZ time? I'm not even sure which DAY it was...

Anyway, looking forward to the new site.

Cheers,

R.

CST = GMT-6 : easy to work out from there, assuming you know where you are relative to GMT and can add and subtract.

So, when it's 20:00 in New York, it's 1959 in London (Old Joke Alert - oooops... too late...)

Cheers, Bob.

Dear Dave, Dear Bob,

I can work that out; the question was when 'tonight' was. As I say, I've never quite worked out what time the site runs on. Your posts are marked 03:51 and 04:16 PM, which is about three hours later than what it is where I am (13:26 as I write this). At a rough guess, that's something like Pakistani or Tibetan time (India is GMT +5-1/2 hours).

Cheers,

Roger

No one other than you needs to know in advance. Take it down when you are all ready to go, put up a dummy front page saying the site is down and when it is expected back up and leave it at that. It'll be a nice surprise...

Cheers, Bob.

Sean,

You're diagnosis was correct! Here at office I do see the icon links on the sponsor page. Using IE here. At home I use Firefox with ad blocker.

Actually, only the British still refer to GMT nowadays. The rest of us call it UTC (Universal Time Coordinate). Just ask you friendly ham radio operator from Copake! :D

On the other hand, try asking anyone around the world who isn't a Ham Radio operator or in posession of other techy credentials what "UTC" stands for and watch the blank faces... It's not even spelt the right way around for a English speaker (Coordinated Universal Time)... It's "UTC" because that's the way it is in French grammar (as in NATO becomes OTAN in France).

Besides, by the only gauge that really matters, Google has 5 times the number of hits for GMT as the number of UTC hits.

Cheers, Bob.
