Robert,

I would love to be able to join you but I have prior commitments for participation in Art Shows at this point at that time in October and through years end. Perhaps another trip.

The Macdonell ranges are really amazing I reckon. I have only been there once, hope one day to get there again, but it's not going to happen any time soon.

Very tempting.

Once I get back from Bangkok I'll check Uni dates, children school vacation dates etc and then give a better answer Robert.

Would love to be able to swing it... especially as my darling Wife bought me a Hasselblad for my birthday last weekend...

Kind Regards
Glenn

Samuel Yes, the Western MacDonnell range is quite stunning. I've been there twice and there is just one particular scene that I can't get out of my head: at the end of Larapinta Drive there is a spot overlooking the Finke River with Mt. Sonder in the background. The setting sun, just lights up the range. Truly stunning!!

Glenn I hope you do get the opportunity to come along. We are going to take a lot of pictures, and Steve and I are going to have a debate over whether VB is better than XXXX.

I'm a bit partial to Speights myself, but doubt that I will be able to get any in the middle of the Outback. :D

I tried to get tickets on Air New Zealand so I could fly through Auckland, but the dates I need to fly were sold out. But, I promise to come back to NZ as soon as I can.

Come on! Surely Steve realises that Australia's BEST beer by a mile comes from his home city of Adelaide????

I am a fair chance to join you guys on some of this trip. You are driving up from Adelaide, right? Hopefully I can tie it in with a business trip or two in the area.

Guys the only good beer is the beer you make yourself. Which reminds me the keg is nearly empty.

That's a great area for landscapes. I haven't been up there for over 30 years and I'd love to join you but I don't think it's going to happen. My day job y'know. Only 366 days, 7 hours to go now, so maybe next year.

Sorry you can't join us Pete, but I'm glad to hear that you are counting down to your retirement. Perhaps, next year.

I'm still unable to confirm my attendance. We are planning to open our next gallery in Perth in late September/early October, so things might just be too hectic at that time. I really want to go, so I'll be pulling out all stops to make it.

Cheers,
Graeme

No worries Graeme, we know that time is tight for you. If you can't make it, I'll be sure to have a cold one for you.

Hey - I'm gonna be thirsty: better have a few cold ones for me!

Travelling to places like that is now part of my job description, so I will be pushing the urgency button to make the trip. I'll let you guys know my progress as the dates loom.

cheers,
Graeme

Just a update about the trip. Steve and I are planning on leaving Adelaide on the morning of 16 October. Currently, we are planning on stopping for the night along the way, then up to Coober Pedy on the 17th, where we will spend the night. We will leave for the Alice on the 18th probably arriving late afternoon/early evening. We will be camping out at Ormiston Gorge (about 130km west of Alice Springs) for several days, but the plans call for shooting in both the Western MacDonnell range (where Ormiston Gorge is), the Eastern MacDonnell range, around Corroboree Rock, as well as around Hermannsburg.

Graeme is unable to make the trip due to commitments, but all who wish to join us are welcome. If you want to come, please PM me or Steve (chiller) your mobile number, so we can be in touch. FYI, I'll be mainly shooting 5x4 color, and Steve 5x4 B&W.

Remember to get up early in Coober Pedy, there's a hill in the middle of town, near the giant bucket thing if I remember, where you can see just about everything. Be good at sunrise I'd think - I bet my older sister $10 to scream "I'm king off the world!" from there. Sadly took no photos.
Sounds like an interesting trip to me, I've been meaning to make it for a few years myself when I have a car, maybe I'll be able to join you lot if there's ever another event in the state. But apart from that - enjoy Australia.

Thanks for the thoughts Alex. Steve and I will probably stay either at or near The Breakaways, since we are both landscape photographers. I travel to Australia almost every year, so I will probably be back to South Australia again sometime in the future.
