Any experience with a Speed Ezel for 11x14

The Speed Ezel looks like an inexpensive alternative to a four bladed adjustable easel, assuming that you are only interested in fixed sized prints. Has anyone had any experience with one of these? How cumbersome are they to use?

As I understand it, you slide the paper into the easel from the side. Is there a problem with scratching the surface of the paper from doing this?

use one often with no problems.
they are easy to use, altho, i also love my 4 bladed easel.

No issues with scratching... I am not constantly making different sized prints.. But if your doing a "standard" size, print easels are quite nice to work with...

They are exactly the size you need, so, why uses a 20X20 4 bladed when all you need is an 11X14.... Of course, one down side. You are left with a small border all the way around...

I have a set of these from 3.5x5 up to 11x14. I don't use them for RC paper since it lays flat. But, I recently bought some fiber and I'll probably get the Speeds back out. They do make a uniform (more or less) quarter inch border on all sides. It's exactly the look prints had when I was growing up, so it always looked "right" to me.

As long as you are using all of a "standard" size and either want the border or plan to trim it off, a SpeedEZel can't be beat IMHO. They will not scratch the paper!

Speed Easel

If you are talking about speed easels save your money. I do have the one sized saunders easels in 8x10,11x14, and 16x20and they work just great; but recently bought an adjustable 11x14 off an APUG member here and it works BETTER. Makes cropping easier. Spend your $ once if you can.

I have the speed easels from postcard size to 16x20 and find them very helpful and stable. They have been my preferred easels for some time. Any lust for a four bladed easel is usually tempered by the cost of acquisition.

I had used them at one time and found that they were unlevel...enough so that the prints were affected.

I think those might need a sheet under the paper for a snug fit.
Years ago I had a spring loaded bed, side load easel which
snuged very nicely.
The Saunders steel, ?, drop frame single size is a front loading
alternative; narrow frame like the Ezel.

I doubt I'll ever be happy with a four blade and paper slots.
The paper curls up from the slots and the blades don't hold the
paper flat. May yet end up making my own easel, easels. Dan
