Near Page, AZ. Just go to Page and in the tourist info office they will tell all you want to know about it.

Then charge you a lot of money to stand around with a bunch of digiholics. You will not be allowed to explore the cave. Trust me it is not worth what they charge. Antelope canyon is part of the Navajo Nation Tribal Park System and is governed by regulations of the Navajo tribe. When were you planning to go? If you were not going to go before mid week next week I am working on something that explains all about photographing on the Navajo Reservation with contact numbers and everything. If you need it before next week PM me and I'll get you all of the information you will need.

I should clear up something. I live on the Navajo Reservation and spend a huge amount of time in the Page area. Of all the places on the Reservation there are to photograph Antelope canyon is the most needlessly restricted. It is a money making venture and nothing else. It is a long story that stems from the strained relationship between the Navajo and the not so open minded members of the Page community plus some photographers who were not exactly following the rules when traipsing around this part of the reservation.

I've been to Aneltope Canyon several times.... It is currently one of my favorite places in the whole world... there are two sections to Antelope Canyon (in terms of where most people go), Lower Antelope Canyon and Upper Antelope Canyon... each offers a different feel, Upper handling more tourist as it is more accessable for those less able to climb ladders and shoot thru narrow passages... Lower Anterlope Canyon is more intiment in my opinion and I prefer this one (although images from both have been great)... They are just across the highway from each other... In addition to these spots, there is a another place I've just learned about... It is farther upstream and the guide only takes two, three or four photographers as I remember... I have his name down in the studio and if you are interested in him (@ somewhere near $250 from waht I rmember), I will send that info to you later as I'm up in the house now... As I said I only met him last trip as I was about to leave town...

If you think Antelope Canyon is great, Try the Narrows in Zion National Park. It is only accessible during certain DRY times of the year when the water temps are not butt cold.

Mark is a great guy who knows of what he speaks. I think his guide will be invaluable to those who want to explore and shoot the Navajo reservation.

As for the Hopi Reservation, do not even try to take pictures there. In fact do not take your cameras there, they will confiscate them.

I have a foster daughter, who's family has sort of adopted my family into theirs. She is a Navajo. Her parents place is semi inaccessible. What I want to do is work with Per Volquartz and the Yazzie family about doing a workshop with them. Page is about 20 miles away for those like me who have to have a toilet that flushes and a warm shower. We just might have to get Mark to help us with this one. It would ensure he attended this workshop.

I would be happy to do this, if it came about.

I used to spend a lot of time in the Page area, back when I lived in Phoenix. Antelope Canyon is quite nice, but I wouldn't miss Paria Canyon, just over the border in Utah (30+ miles I think). It has been a few years since I was last there, perhaps someone here could post more recent information about it.
