Favorite developer and times for these films? I know some of you wedding pros use the film, any street shooters? I know it is about to disappear, want to make the best of what I've got.

Thanks as always in advance....

I don't use the 400 but the 100 pulled to 50 developed in Ilford Perceptol gives great results (fine grained with nice tones). Rating it at 50 ISO is normal with Perceptol.

If you're one of the many streetphotographers who prefer Tri-X devleoped in Rodinal than this is certainly not for you.

I like APX 100 in Rodinal. I use 1:50 dilution for 13 mins 68F. Pretty much what the Massive Development chart suggests. Never used the APX 400.

John

Dave Wooten:
Just to make sure you don't get me wrong on this one. APX100 and Tri-X are VERY different films to begin with and there is no way you can make them look like eachother.

Tri-X + Rodinal is one of the "harder" combinations you can have with large sharp grain and lots of contrast. APX100@50 in Perceptol is the complete opposite. Ultra fine grain, low accutance and typically low contrast. Contrast depends on dillution and some prefer stronger dilution than suggested on the package.

I am hoping to use the 100 for some protraits and still life......the 400 I am hoping to use for the "street stuff", the enlargements need to hold up at 16 x 20 and 20 x 24 size, also am shooting some 6 x 17 for enalrgement.

APX 400: great in D2D from "The Darkroom Cookbook".

Also good in HC-110, 1+31, 9 min. (I go 10), 70F;

D-76, 1+0, 8 min @ 68F; 1+1 for 13 min @ 68F;

Rodinal, 1+50, 8.5 min. 68

PMK, 1+3+100, 16 min. @ 70F. (I up the amount of carbonate; I print with VC paper and my highlights were muddy with the standard 1+2+100 dilution. This seems to have fixed the problem.)

I use a spot meter at the rated speed of ISO 400. You mileage may vary.

Sorry, forgot APX 100:

D-76, 1+0, 9 min.; 1+1, 13 min.; 1+3, 15 min. All @ 68F

HC-110, 1+31, 7 min. @ 68

Microdol-X, 1+0, EI 50, 13 min. @ 69

PMK, 1+3+100, EI 64, 13 min. @ 70F

Rodinal, pre-soak in 0.5 tsp sod. carb/1 liter water. Dilute Rodinal 1+50, 16 min., 2 inversions/60 sec., 16 min. @ 68.

Have fun!

I use both Agfa Apx100 and 400, usually developed in Rodinal; 1:50, 1:200 (Stand), or rarely, 1:25.

I could attempt to describe MY impressions of the results, until my keyboard collapsed under the load.
Nothing will take the place of your own impressions of the results. *I* (for what it is worth) am hooked on the combination.

There will be those who will recoil in shock, from the mention of any film/ developer combination - I can only say that I've never seen ANY film explode in a developing tank yet - so as far as I'm concerned EVERY combination is worthy of experimentation and ... adventure.

Give it a try. You may just discover a gem.

I have used APX100 in Rodinal Special (Studional in US & Canada I think) with good results. I will post my times later when I find them.

Can't seem to find my notes but I am pretty sure I used Agfa's times at 1:15. I plan to try out a 1:30 dilution soon.

What do you mean with tsp sod. ? I pre-soak in water only.

Ohh and why do so many people say this filmis going to disapear, as far is I understood AGFA will survive.

My take (and to be taken with a large grain of "he's weird and very much a beginner" salt) on both the APX's is this: they are what they are - you will either like it or not, but if you do not like "it"... there is very little that I think youcan, or really should do to change. Having said that - I have usef both films extensively and really liked them both - and now still like the 100 and tolerate the 400 in 120. I have tried them in my favorite - Rodinal 1:50 at MDC obtained times with perfect results (from a technical stand point) and a look that I like for what I used the film. There will be grain. If you are not a fan of grain - disregard my post entirely. Even with the 100 the grain is there - very pretty, ver sharp and full of wonderful tones, not even very big - but very much there.
I have also tried it in Microphen. The results? Well... here is APX400 in Microphen:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Definitely controls the grain - that image is cropped only so it fits 8x10 and scanned from print. But I don't really like the wishy washy look it gives next to a Rodinal neg.

Like others have said - you will have to decide what you want the print to look like.

Gnashings, that is a nice shot thanks for the film info and posting in the gallery...the little Lubitel is actually an impressive little camera at times.
